They would make stuff like jollof rice and share it with everyone. Super nice people. The only politics they ever brought up was one guy I got to know well would talk a lot about how the elections in the Congo at the time (2010ish) were rigged and the leader at the time was concentrating his power; that war was inevitable if someone did not intervene. I want a lightgun that works like those big chunky ones you’d see on arcade machines back in the day that weighed like 4 lbs and had servos to give it real clacky recoil. That’s the challenge though. On a micro level it’s easy. I work in mental health and I have similar stories from my days working in hospitals (I do outpatient work now) where our unit staff have banded together for challenges. Pick something you want to self host first. Do you want a media library? Then look into Jellyfin guides, or komga, or whatever. Do you want a centralized blocking dns server for all your devices? Look into adguard/pihole/etc. do you want to fuck around with llms? That’s a whole thing but you totally can and look into guides on doing it

In 2005 they published his article “deadly immunity” along with salon.com. It was filled with factual errors but it helped popularize the anti vaccine movement.

Even that was a fucking joke - a year after the article they listed numerous corrections showing the article was horrendously researched by an absolute fool with no peer review whatsoever. And while salon did eventually retract the article and distance themselves from the article it took six fucking years for them to do so despite glaring errors

Rolling stone on the other hand left the article printed for a decade and a half, at least. While the article above suggests they both retracted it that was clearly not the case:
