  • Why would a for-profit company spend three millions to develop the desktop application, then a million per month to maintain it, in order to lose your personal data therefore making less money?

  • I think you were being biased.

    1. You heard the name of the software
    2. You search on Google, which takes you to their official website
    3. You click on the download button and download it
    4. Double click on the file and follow the on-screen guide to finished the installation
  • I'm not disagreeing with you. My mother has been a vegetarian for decades. She suffers from blood pressure problem and constantly has to go see her doctor. Every time it gets worse she has to eat a small amount of meat to boost her nutritional level, but then she always goes back to being a vegetarian.

If it's OK for anyone to have a meatless diet, good. If further more he or she does it to save the planet, even better. But not everyone can do so, so I hope those who can do it stop pointing fingers.

  • What? Meat provide like 90% of my protein intake. What are you suggesting here? Stop living?

Oh yeah, you are doing fine just by eating vegetables. I don't.

And no, I don't eat meat to have pleasure. I eat it to live.

  • Is there anyone here remember Gentoo and the merge/split /usr period?

Gentoo developers are kind and super helpful that they put out any important notice after you pull upgrades to your system. Run eselect news read to know what the breaking change is going to be, and carefully perform the required actions one by one. It's a great distro made by great fellas.

I don't mind there is breaking change at all. I do mind that you don't tell me about it.

  • Me too. But I stopped hopping ten years ago and settled down on Alpine, Void, or Gentoo, based on how fancy the hardware is, and the use case.

To me, the hopping part relates more to tinkering and fine-tuning. Today I prefer things just work. I wish no down time on all my devices and servers, because who has time to figure out why my photo doesn't sync to my NAS, or dig up that piece of paper when my password manager does not respond because of the proxy service is down?

  • It could, but not necessarily.

char **args can just mean you have a pointer which points to an address, and at that address, you can get a second address. Follow the second address, there is a char saved there.

On the other hand, char *args[] means " follow this address to find a list of characters".

  • When you say "All the atoms and molecules are still in the same places", I can't say I agree. It is the change of chemical composition that renders our body dead. Or should I say, death is defined to be such a chemical composition.
