  • I use my old Galaxy S9+ to run all my smarthome apps. There's so many janky apps for various smarthome devices that I don't want on my personal phone. I created an entirely seperate google account for the phone and have all the awful apps running on it. The goal is to have it also power a display with a Home Assistant dashboard. I also have it on a separate vlan so if it gets hacked/compromised they can't access the other computers on the network.

  • You mentioned "results of elections all across the world". I see Benjamin Netanyahu, a facist who lost election after election now trying to take absolute control over his country. I see fascists in America trying to steal elections with 40% of the vote when the majority of the population doesn't want them. I see Lukashenko imprisoning his political rivals that appear to be supported by a majority of people. Conservatives don't believe in democracy. They don't care what people want. They just want the appearance of legitimacy that democracy provides. Creating fake supporters online is just one tool in the aresenal to create the impression of support where none actually exists, to make their fascism easier to pull off. You can think of astroturfing as reverse censorship, and it's just as bad.

  • As a kid I preferred Lost World to the original. There were more dinsosaurs so obviously it was better.

As an adult I definitely appreciate Jurassic Park more. The direction and cinematography are just incredible. I haven't seen Lost World in ages, I should give it another shot.

  • Samsung phones are the worst android phones you can buy, except for all the others.

As frustrating as Samsung is, I always find myself going back to them. Displays, build quality, cameras, performance, storage capacity, speakers, software features (Dex!), they're just ahead of the curve across the board.

The only legitimate advantage of Chinese phones is the super fast charging, but I'm in the better safe than sorry camp on that one.

I've had the Fold 3 and now Fold 4, and I really don't see myself getting anything other than a Fold 6 down the line, unless something major changes.

  • Firefox compatibility got worse as Chrome became more popular. There was a time when Firefox was the standard that everyone developed to. I'm talking like 2003-2004 period. Case in point, to this day Chrome identifies itself as Firefox to websites to get the "Firefox" version of a webpage as opposed to the Internet Explorer version.

  • At the time Firefox was clunky, unpopular, and did not have good compatibility across all sites

Firefox was an excellent, fast, highly compatible, alternative to Internet Explorer. It was already winning when Chrome came on the scene. However, Firefox actually got more clunky and slower over time, so Chrome was a breath of fresh air in comparison. People like me who used Firefox back from version 0.6 jumped to Chrome because it was doing what Firefox used to do. Chrome was a genuinely better product for a long time, but then like Firefox, it too got slower and more clunky. Meanwhile, Firefox saw what they were up against and went back to their roots. Firefox has gotten a lot better in the last couple years.

Google also significantly pushed Chrome adoption by encouraging people to download it in Google search and Gmail.
