  • That's not the end of the world, though it does mean that a competitor could always start using it. I was going to say just use Lemmy but a major site would probably want to have their own fork for stability so they're not at the whims of someone else.

They could probably use an open fork for a while while also developing their own software that would be compatible and then seamlessly switched out.

  • I have really mixed feelings about automated UBI societies. UBI needs to be tied to some form of "adulting" otherwise you're just going to end up enabling people. The idea of tying people's income to performing certain tasks is also very scary for the potential of abuse. Letting people sit at home and be slobs all day will get us Brave New World.

I think the way to help people is to drastically lower the cost of housing and other essential costs. A government allowance just makes people slaves to the government.

I feel like UBI only works out when people have very strong religious morals that give them discipline and will stop them from becoming fat slobs if they don't need to work.

  • Reddit administration thinks the site is too big to fail. Lemmy isn't a real competitor to them because the decentralization of federation means that joining an instance and trying to navigate the fediverse is a bit too complex for most people. The reason why massively populated social media sites took off is because people like having everything in one place where everyone else is.

What I could see happening is a well-funded startup creates a fork of Lemmy that they use as the basis for their instance and they can customize and develop as they see fit. This instance would be accessible to everyone already on Lemmy, but they could offer one centralized alternative to Reddit where new users don't have to think about what they need to do to join.

I'm sure that if Lemmy picks up critical mass, it could lower the bar for most people to be willing to jump through the extra hoops. Ultimately federation solves the chicken and egg problem that any social media startup has.

  • Even if it wasn't fabricated, the obsessive stalking would make it incredibly hard even for real evidence to be convincing.

Their parents should have taken away their access to the internet long ago. According to Muta, they was able to recently get a sympathetic fan base to buy merch and provide crowd funding, which was positive. Of course, Chris wouldn't have this level of infamy if they had their internet access shut off long ago.

I don't know if Chris's family has enough money to put them in a group home for the rest of their life, but that's where they belong and they should permanently lose internet access.

  • The trolls stalkers involved are very likely the reason why they got off. No doubt they'll never admit this to themselves. When you have obsessive mentally ill stalkers perpetually targeting someone like this, it becomes incredibly easy for the defense to argue that all the evidence was fabricated by obsessive losers.

  • My sister is a lesbian and she has a fear of being perceived as gay. She said that she's so straight that she became a lesbian.

Leviticus doesn't specify a gender of the audience, so the only acceptable sex is for all straight men to become uwu lesbians.
