I feel like there's more on the line with groceries being a staple necessary for human existence, so hopefully there's more motivation to stop this one. Your example stands though and I don't have a whole lot of faith that this will turn out different.
So facial recognition in this case means that it can recognize that a face exists? No particular details but just a face? That's a lot less egregious than I assumed from the headline. With all the AI stuff going on these days, I assumed it was some kind of data mining operation
The spot size is the size of the point the laser focuses on. It seems with the material they've used that there is some kind of interference between the two lasers they use to make a pit smaller than you would expect. There's not a whole lot of information in the article to understand the details. Also, I'm just a guy who works on lasers, getting C's in my optics class currently so take it with a massive dose of salt
