  • How efficient at sinking carbon are trees? As in, once the tree decomposes, the carbon gets largely released back into the air.

But yeah, "shitload of trees" + "some way of storing them at end of life that doesn't result in carbon back into the atmosphere" seems like a pretty solid plan.

  • Depends a lot on use case, certainly!

Also, do you like a "bottom up" or "top down" approach? Grabbing a raspberry pi and setting up a headless (no monitor) home server is a great bottom up way of getting familiar with things --- learn to configure various services and whatnot from the command line. Or, just start with a user-friendly distro with a GUI you like, and gradually work your way up to looking under the hood.

  • It's not "endless suburbia." It does end --- the state is just huge!

You can hop on a bike in downtown San Francisco after breakfast, and end up in the middle of nowhere in the Mt. Tam watershed before lunch.

And if that's too urban, go hike the Lost Coast. Or check out Yosemite.

  • Does this precedent have gun control implications? Does criminal activity selectively disqualify you from certain constitutional protections but not others?

I certainly have personal thoughts on the matter but curious what it implies more objectively.

  • Yes I think you used the terms correctly --- it should be referring to the amplitude. "Discrete sampling" or just sampling rate is the preferred way to refer to time, you're right.

I was trying to use consistent language in response to the reply claiming you were misunderstanding the sampling theorem. I think that poster was confusing discrete/quantized steps in time with discrete/quantized steps in amplitude.

Their comment about SNR is certainly true though.

  • But you forgot to tell us what RAW/editing software you used, the computer you used to upload, and the beverage that kept you alert and refreshed throughout the whole process!

On a more serious note, really neat picture! I think it would be super cool to try this with a "real" (incandescent) Edison bulb, although perhaps the bulb isn't as smooth on those, which might look less cool. But it would get extra points from me for the old tech/new tech aspect.
