  • I think those people already left

  • This is a bit learning the wrong lesson from what happened, isn't it? The problem is admin overreach. There was some disagreement on a sub, no big deal. I don't even care what it's about, I have no opinion on it. But now this admin comes in like Eric Cartman "Respect mah authoritah!". What am I supposed to make of that? Nobody was advocating animal abuse. I worry about admins who can't just let something go, who can't handle disagreement, like a cop always looking to escalate.

So thanks for the rules clarification, I guess, but what about:

    • won't this general guideline of 'do no harm' stifle discussion in case it isn't clear which is the harmful position? For example covid
    • is there a process in place when an admin does something in the heat of the moment, that the admin team can let them cool off for a bit?
    • is removing mods going to be the norm?
    • will there be more rules when another admin disagrees with a mod?
    • why was this escalated like this? Don't you think removing mod status is an overreaction (procedure wise)?
    • does the 'anti animal abuse' statute apply to animal consumption and animal products? Vegan community has a point there
    • what about rooki?

All in all, please don't kill this instance by telling people what to think. There is healthy discussion and people don't always have to agree. That doesn't make me a 'free speech absolutist'. I think removing moderator privileges was quite out of bounds. Again, nobody was advocating animal abuse at all.

Mods and admins are here to keep discussion healthy, not impose their views on everyone else, right? So don't! And don't cover for others who do!

  • It's called jumpstyle. I found this video which is pretty good (at 1:20) https://youtu.be/aja2Wlp9OD0

The other dances are also very well executed. I think jumpstyle worked so well as a fad dance is because it's easy to learn, variation is pretty basic, you can somewhat blend in if you can keep a rhythm. Whereas tectonik is fucking awesome but you look like an idiot unless you're crazy good and wayyy confident.

  • I'm like "let's look up some jumpstyle videos on YouTube for the onlookers in this conversation" but I think it's all been deleted out of sheer cringe.

  • Or it might be necessary to ban rich people.

    Haha, now we're talking!

  • You can burn out at a job that only expects healthy hours because you're an overachiever who refuses to take time off.

    🙋😢

  • Cory Doctorow calls this one "it's ok because we do it with an app" and urges regulators to enforce the laws already on the books. It's an absurd defense legally, but there's no enforcement of antitrust or consumer law at all anymore

  • Charges dismissed does not mean he was found not guilty. They could charge him again. Given what we know, the cops fucked this up. No-knock raids are a death sentence.

  • Never mind the "thanks I'm cured" vibes, but mild exercise does improve mental health a lot. Going outside for a stroll in nature is great. I know it's still difficult when your brain just wants you to curl up into a ball all day, but the idea isn't bad.

  • What the hell. There's just a disagreement, no need to use admin override powers. Just let it be. Let them have their sub. It's not like they're recruiting for Al Qaeda.

I really don't give a damn about this particular fight about cat food. But I do worry about admins or mods who can't sometimes just let something slide. Like cops always looking to escalate

  • We want to keep it in some form.

    There's your problem.

You're not really looking for feedback if you've already made up your mind. Stop pretending to listen to the community if you're ignoring the countless blocks and downvotes. That's your feedback right there

How about you remove the bot and then fix whatever problems you have without doubling down on the bot solution? If you want community feedback on mod overburden, I'm sure people will be willing to help with that. But stop forcing the bot.

  • The mods aren't neutral though. They already start with a pretty strong "the bot is here to stay" which is borderline insulting to the community. Then they're asking for ideas to make it better, which already presumes the idea is feasible or a good idea in the first place. Sure, I would make it less spammy, put the details behind a link, etc etc, but they're already committed to the bot as a solution to their stated problem of overloaded mods. Well that could be solved in much better ways. All the energy going to this controversial bot is adding to the mod overburden!

  • Exactly! What a waste. They already got their feedback
