  • As someone who received that, I did not appreciate it at all.

  • Nowhere in the post title, headline, summary, or actual article is this called a "win".

  • If you live within 100 miles of a border....yeah, probably.

    https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/border-zone

I've read that they also consider international airports "borders", but I can't find anything authoritative saying that. Still, wouldn't put it past them.

  • I use the Dell equivalent tiny PCs for my app servers. Debian is nice, general purpose, crazy stable, and pretty easy to work with. It runs my entire stack (well, Debian and OpenWRT).

As far as nuking windows, just delete all the partitions on the disk when you're at the partitioning stage of whatever distro's installer. Then just make new partitions as you see fit.

  • Probably better to just keep it. Probably.

Interest rates haven't changed much since 2021 (they may even be higher?). Unless your credit score has massively improved to potentially secure a lower rate on a new finance, it's probably not going to be any better than the 7.59 you have now.

Do you think you could sell your HRV for $16,000 in a private sale? Even at that, you'd be breaking even with the payoff, and the replacement would be 100% out of pocket (or a new finance at whatever current rates are).

Do you have your eye on something already as a replacement? If so, how much would it cost? Do you think you could tack that amount (or part of it) on to the $16K sale price of your HRV to help pay for it?

Ultimately, those are only things you can answer. I'm more of a play it safe /devil you know person, so I would probably just stick with it but pay extra on principal to help pay it down quicker and reduce interest on the loan.

  • Interesting. One of my instance's guiding philosophies is "Quality over Quantity". I've taken different steps toward achieving that (defederate from the Reddit repost instances, disallow pretty much all content bots, manually/locally mod duplicate posts, etc).

Do you plan to publish your algorithm/filter? Would be interested in seeing if it could be tuned and possibly reduce some of the workload for me.

  • Judges are already elected in many areas of the US, but for Federal judges, yeah, that would be a bad thing.

  • Wood-like material? They're not even using real sawdust anymore? Shrinkflation has gotten out of hand.

  • Two things can be true at once.

I'm simply saying that if I see a .lnk file that's 2.5 MB, I'm going to be more than a little suspicious since pretty much all shortcut files are like 800-some bytes.

  • Already working on plans to attempt to migrate my instance to a Piefed backend. Gonna take some doing/experimentation, but hopefully will be able to share the knowledge learned (and, ideally, a migration script).

  • Yeah Boaty was the first Noun-y McNoun-face I recall too. I'm pretty sure it was just so absurd (when the other submissions were mostly serious) that it birthed the meme.

  • Which would be better? Running out of ideas and going with "this, that, and that other street" or letting the internet name them "Streety McStreetface III"?

I think Canada made the right call, but also, "Streety McStreetface" would be awesome.

  • But Trend's Zero Day Initiative said it observed North Korea-backed crews padding out the command-line arguments with megabytes of whitespace, burying the actual commands deep out of sight in the user interface.

A multi-megabyte shortcut file (which is usually a file less than 1 KB) would be very suspicious to me, but I guess I'm not the target audience of this particular exploit.

  • Yeah, I'm actually planning to see about trying to migrate from Lemmy to Piefed (as an instance). Rimu said it's technically possible but will need some manual work to ETL the data over. Hoping to start poking around and making some attempts soon-ish. Right now, still just doing my homework and familiarizing myself with Piefed.

  • True, and I had the same thought. But then I realized that's probably true for most people that are the face of memes. At least the one I did was lighthearted / in good humor.

  • I'm only commenting this just to see if I'm right, but maybe an air quality monitor?

  • It's a long history of Github, Lemmy, and admin chat interactions that culminate in my desire to never willingly interact with them again. It's just too much and too off-topic to post here.

  • Basically people pissed off and need an outlet for that but can't see the forest for the trees. 🤷‍♂️
