  • So you just want to educate the rich kids and leave all the poor kids behind? That’s a great way to make us less competitive

    Yes.

That is exactly what they want.

Because in their craven hearts they think we're poor because we're a worse class of people, and that if we were a better person it'd just shine through without any thought to the environment. After all, they're doing well because they're just superior, and not because they won the vagina lottery and were lucky enough to be born to rich parents in a time of opportunity. Nope, not that. It was all their own hard work. They built their business by combining the various component atoms of it, powering nuclear fusion by sheer willpower.

There's a statistically significant number of these people who masturbate to copies of Atlas Shrugged.

  • You know, you could fix a lot of these problems if you funded schools properly. Then we could have resources for disadvantaged students, as well as enriched programs for really bright kids.

But of course, that would mean paying taxes. And right-wingers' concerns for children or the unborn stops at having to pay for it. Pro-life when it means stopping abortion? Fuck yeah! Pro-life when it means maternal nurtrition and healthcare? Fuck you!

  • Jesus... Taxing innovation.

No, we'd be quite happy for you to innovate, we just don't want you to re-enact the opening sequence of Duck Takes, swimming in a pool of cash while most people struggle to make ends meet.

How about this? You fuck off, and someone else can do what you do without being a greedy parasite about it?

  • "Just grind harder because I'm not rich enough yet!"

This is the kind of attitude that can turn a relatively minor increase in capital gains taxes into "Get out the guillotine!" by pissing people off.

  • What's even scarier is those same people seem completely oblivious to the alternative, which is Mr. "Muslim Ban, Shithole Countries, I like Jewish people counting my money, I'd just nuke the whole place" Trump.

Like, your problem is genocide and you'll basically pave the road for the candidate that explicitly said they'd do a genocide, and whose supporters would cheer him on as the missiles launched, over one that you have some influence over?

  • Yeah, but the consequences is a second Trump administration if you don't vote for a Democratic candidate for president, and two to four more years of legislative gridlock if the Republicans aren't reduced to powerless rump.

Do you want a second Trump administration? Think really hard about that, because the last one vacillated between "Berlusconi-level incompetency" and "Mussolini-level malice".

The stakes really are to high to "try to teach Biden and the Democrats a lesson", and it's not like corporate Democrats really care, because they'd rather lose to a Republican than get primaried by a progressive and stop the gravy train forever, plus they have this weird idea that if they're "civil" they won't find themselves lynched during the American Krystallnacht.

The problem with not primaring out corporate Democrats is that American voters...didn't do it. Not that it didn't work as a strategy, because replacing corporate Republicans with fascist nutjobs is working out just fine. Maybe progressives, or at least progressive Millenials and Gen-Xers, really are too lazy to affect real change?

  • He and his party are doing the calculus and figuring that they'll do better supporting Israel because, frankly, where else are those voters going to go? Trump? He'd nuke Gaza if Netanyahu co-signed a loan for him.

Democratic voters need to vote blue no matter who, and then primary out the corporatist candidates at the earliest opportunity.

This has to be a two-pronged effort: keep the Republicans out of office permanently, and clean the Democratic slate from within.

  • This is on Netanyahu.

He's put a target on the collective back of the entire Jewish diaspora, just to save his own political skin.

  • It should be be easy: are you a New first, or are you a human being first?

Because a lot of these guys are, ahem, Juden Uber Alles.

  • It's because he's their creepy fucker.

If Jesus came down from heaven and ran as a Democrat, these people would all still vote Trump.

Do not underestimate the power of tribal instincts in social primates.

  • To be fair, the Liberals wouldn't choose a voting system that would see them lose access to power, which PR would: there would never be another election where they could get 30ish% of the vote but win a majority, which suits them just fine: they'd rather change seats with the Conservatives every few years than be forced to compromise with other parties.

The electorate in this country is much more left-wing and progressive than the politicians it elects, and PR would codify that. The Calgarian and Laurentian elites wouldn't ever let that happen, which means that, if the NDP and BQ ever manage to form a plurality, they need to ram it through immediately.

And the Senate can pound sand: next to the Governors General, they're a useless rubber stamp anyway.

  • Market-based solutions for the win!

    /s, obviously.

Edited, this is what carbon taxes were supposed to replace, because everyone wanted something "market-based" even though regulation worked well for addressing CFCs. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if companies are cheating on cap-and-trade and whinging about carbon pricing that we should just straight-up regulate them. No bribes, no incentives, just "stop polluting or we fine you at 110% of your global revenue."

  • You can tell that the rich and powerful are really afraid of these protests spilling over into a general dissatisfaction with the status quo.

They were, mostly, fine with the Convoy because that was a revolt of the privileged against restrictions, but this, this is more like OWS or the G20, a threat to those in charge. They know they've pushed things pretty far, disenfranchising people and squeezing them for everything their worth. They're hoping they can keep us at each others' throats and maybe benefit from a little protofascist dog-whistling, and they're really concerned that they might lose control.

  • Supply and demand, motherfuckers.

I shed not one tear for this industry. Not one. The best of them are slide-rule-wielding penny-pinchers that will extract every fraction of a cent they can from you: don't be successful, because as soon as you look like you're doing well, your rent will triple.

The worst of them are actual fucking mobsters--greasy hair, shiny clothes, obnoxious cars, silicone-enhanced mistresses, the whole lot of it--who would have you whacked if it made them money.

None of them provide value, they just skim the cream off society and drag the rest of us down. They didn't even build most of the spaces they're hocking, they just bought them from their (similarly corrupt) buddies. When we talk about "productivity" being a problem in the Canadian economy, it's jackasses like this causing it by sucking up all the financial oxygen in the room.

  • Saying this on Reddit or Twitter is a great way to get your account suspended.

'Cause racism, sexism and harassment are a-ok, but suggest that the rich would behave better if they were afraid instead of contemptuous and you're in the penalty box.

  • Today half of these people would have been convinced by dudes on social media that real men don’t support this cause

Reagan and Thatcher were calling Mandela a terrorist after he had been released from prison. The western world was very much okay with apartheid then, much like they're okay with Israel doing a genocide today: because they can and will "do business" with fascists. Attitudes only shifted because it became economically unpalatable to "do business" with South Africa, largely because of boycotts.

Want to stop Israel? Make it cost the rich more to support them. Boycott, divest, sanction.

  • It's like we learned nothing from the 20th century: every time the rich get too greedy, they'll gleefully fertilize the fields of fascism before they'll accept making less money.

  • You might not get mail every day. Just like you might not see the doctor every month.

But some people do, and someone might get mail the days you don't, or might need to see a doctor on days you don't.

Why don't we target services for performance, instead of costs, and tax people until we have the revenue to support those services instead of cutting them down to the bare minimum we'll tolerate?

  • Beyond that, for Canada Post specifically, I don’t understand why I need lettermail delivered 5x per week. Cut it back to twice per week, and suddenly one worker can deliver to 2.5x as many houses per week

This is how the rich get us:

    • "You don't need to see a doctor immediately, you can wait a few weeks" ...and then we have a healthcare crisis
    • "You don't need EAs or janitors in schools" ...and then you have an education crisis.
    • "You don't need a mental hospital, charities can pick up the slack" ...and then we have a drug crisis.

How about this, uncle moneybags, you don't need to be a multimillionaire, you don't need 14% ROI on everything and you don't need to keep your money after you die. Suddenly we have hospitals, schools and reliable postal delivery and you're just moderately rich instead of obscenely so.

  • And Potash. And Telus. The list of all the crowns we sold is long and getting longer.
