  • Imagine, just imagine, how much better of a society we'd have if we just taxed the rich like it was 1962 again.

  • The rich will just insist on higher immigration levels in order to bolster demand.

    See: Canada.

  • Here's the flipside of this kind of story.

My wife went in to have her IUD replaced a few years ago and the then-new doctor asked her, confusingly, why she needed one as she had her tubes tied.

Which came as a surprise to her.

As it turns out, after her second child from her first marriage, her then-husband instructed her doctor at the time to have her tubes tied when she was recovering from delivery. Not that she wanted any more kids with him, because he's thoroughly unpleasant, but holy smokes that there's doctors who seem to believe in the "wimmin are the husband's property!" is horrifying.

  • I said this above, but I'll repeat it here: Freeland has spent the last near-decade getting Hillary'ed by the right-wing. She's basically electoral poison at this point.

If they ran her, she'd join the Kim Campbell Glass Cliff Club.

  • Ditto. Mulcair was quick on his feet and not at all a dummy. I'd have paid money to see him do an "On what date..." to various members of the Trudeau government.

He got branded as "angry Tom" by a media that really wanted a milquetoast centrist candidate, and he made the mistake of trying to tack right to get respect from said media, only to have Trudeau flank him on the left.

  • Fascism does a really good job speaking to the anxieties and insecurities of men. Even young men. Especially young men.

Anyone who doesn't see the warning signs is either historically or willfully ignorant.

  • Freeland isn't a dummy, not by any stretch, but she's also been Hillary'ed over the last several years and would be glass-cliff'ed if she ran. After that, the LPC bench is thin.

The NDP has a similar problem: they've spent the post-Layton era chasing donation candidates (which is why get Singh instead of Angus) and their bench is thin, too.

The CPC, curiously, as a relatively strong bench, mostly because they're packed to the gills with backstabbing business grifters.

  • Sorry, best we can do is a tax cut for the rich.

    "Warrior culture not woke culture!"

  • Yes and no. Do not underestimate a) the amount of people who will vote for the leopards-eating-faces party, b) the number of people who will debase themselves for power, and c) the starry-eyed optimists who want to be the change the want to see.

    Example 1: Nikki Hayley

  • ARM doesn’t specify a standard firmware interface like x86 PCs do.

I mean, they could, but ARM comes from a different era, where interoperability isn’t a requirement and devices are disposable instead of upgradeable.

There no incentive, no IBM PC to be compatible with, not even an Apple, Macintosh, Conmodore Amiga or Atari ST to make peripherals for. ARM devices, even the rPi, are one-and-done.

  • macOS seems to handle this pretty well, honestly. About the only issue I have is XQuartz and even it’s pretty good.

    What’s the issue you’re seeing?

  • You already won the election. You don't need to try so hard to be "not Jeremy Corbyn" any more.

  • "There but for the grace of god go thee."

Or, to be less poetic, "don't get cocky".

Hacks can happen to anyone. Better lessons to learn is "don't enable or install what you don't need" and "keep machines you don't trust off your local network"

  • Solution

  • Ford had to spend millions to get Staples to take the business after he'd already planned to take it from the existing franchisees because he leapt before he looked. Ford, being the business failson that he is, didn't really plan this out at all.

Staples took one look at the costs and efforts involved and nope'ed out of it until Ford bribed them enough to pick it up.

    That's the scandal.

  • As opposed to the Republican's Final Solution?

  • These drove like crap off the lot, but in their defense they'd keep driving like crap a million miles later.

  • The Hondamatic five-speed transmission really tanked this van's desirability. It made Chrysler look good by comparison

It's a great vehicle otherwise, but there was a period around the turn of the millennium where any V6+5AT Honda or Acura product was a serious dice-roll.

  • Some "man of the people" there.

Bet he doubles down on retail booze sales to make this go away.
