  • What happens if lemmy.world admin forces the hand of the mods of wolrdnews@lemmy.world community to ban such content and then defederate from the madeupinstance.net where the new luigi community is hosted? Isn’t that the same problem as reddit? Lemmy.world users would not be able to see the luigi community at that point right?

  • Epimetheus. High quality history videos on past and current civilizations. His hand drawn art is amazing too, he tries to stay very historically accurate. No theatrical narration, just a broad view of history. My favorite channel by far.

Dr Becky. Very very good science communication on astronomy and cosmology. She always sources the papers she mentions and excels at making you understand basic astrophysics. Best explanations of a very hard topic.

Angela Collier, another science communication more focused on physics and the epistemology of the field. I love her personal perspective on all the drama in physics (e.g. why Feinman is overhyped, why it’s still such a terribly sexist field etc.) though she makes it clear that it’s her channel and her opinions. Much more detailed explanations of physics but a little harder to understand.

City Nerd data driven showcase on why cars are bad for cities, usually in a top 10 of cities ranked by some metric of transportation.

  • I think he truly deeply wants to go to Mars. It’s his dream. His one mission. His destiny. I think he actually believes he is the only person that will be able to get people there. In his head, he’s space Jesus. Everyone else is an NPC. He sees government, the left, regulations, workers rights every thing as a barrier for him to move along on his goal. He’s breaking everything appart to build himself a runway. He’s doing one last grift, one last pump and dump to say goodbye and take off. He doesn’t care if the US doesn’t exist in 50 years since he will be off planet.

  • I personally don't really like that analogy. With email, you can send and email to anyone who has an email address. You can only see emails you have received after creating your email account. It's simple and clear. With the fediverse, for past posts, you can see some: only if it was posted on your instance or if someone on your instance was following them when it was originally posted or has interacted with it since, meaning there is some technicality that prevents you from seeing everything you think you should be able to see.

In terms of account creation, I agree. Just pick a provider (instance), if you don't like it you can create a new account somewhere else later.

  • The official Reddit app and new Reddit layout drive me crazy... The amount of suggested content and the confusing algorithm for best sort really turned it into facebook. I find myself much happier here on Lemmy. I understand the algorithm. I'm even pleased to see that posts can last more than a day at the top of the "active" page. I think it means that Lemmy encourages discussion and going back to a topic even if it is a few days old. Probably better for our collective attention span.

  • LMAO the UX on Voyager, my lemmy client blows any reddit free client by a long shot. The UX is excellent. My experience here is much more enjoyable than it is on Reddit. No ads, no suggested content, easy to post, reply, add an image, edit, easy to navigate comments etc. Reddit sucks man.
