  • Correct. I'm in logistics and we do rail road and maritime, and 30% of our money is moving stuff across the border.

If it's going to US clients them there is no choice but if it's going to other places then it's often easier to ship it to hubs like Chicago or NYC, Baltimore, etc, and then out. Whole network is basically shot and now our clients feel the pain and stop ordering anything.

  • Ontario is a massive province and rural internet outside of a handful of areas is terrible. Satellite, esp. good, consistent satellite, is a godsend for those areas -- no one is running fiber out to a town of only 2000 bodies that's highly isolated.

It was a reasonable choice, assuming Musk was mostly sane and not onboard with MAGA.

  • Arguably not, since his platform before the tariff threat was basically to privatize the shit out of everything and screw the average Ontario taxpayer out of healthcare.

He was all about the oligarchy until they burned him. Nothing conservative about being spurned and pushing back.

  • Doug Ford does not have principles. He's in the right on this one, this time, but was actively trying to convince his base he was a Canadian Trump until the tariffs looked to annihilate his province financially.

As someone else said, "broken clock moment"

  • Yeah I work for a company that does a lot of cross border stuff in N America. About 30% of the business is going across the border and that's gonna get ugly real fast.

Even if we don't lose 30%, only 10% of that would lead to major reshuffles and a lot of layoffs.

  • Congress won't do jack shit as long as the Freedom Caucus aka MAGA can tip any vote. We're past the point of thinking Congress will fix this.

Plus the Founders intention was that Congress isnanslow moving organ at best. There won't be a government by the time they get their shit together.

Call your congress-critter, but understand buying ammo will do more for democracy at this point. And if you're not at that point yet, then you've already let them win.

  • The billionaires backing him don't care. The economy will tank and since they've seen record, insane profits recently they'll buy everything up. Putin and China love this too since it will fracture US hegemony and smash north American manufacturing.

Rent seeking behavior really is the end of empires.
