  • Well yes, it does have to have chirality, I just meant it doesn't have to contain any specific elements.

I'm definitely no expert, but isn't the D/L notation used in all of chemistry? Sometimes it's written Δ/Λ, but that's the same thing. Doesn't it just describe a molecule's geometry in a different way from R/S?

  • I think crack users don't bother with hallucinogens because they're looking for high impact dopamine hits, not a lengthy psychedelic experience. I don't think vice versa is true, people who use psychedelics aren't necessarily avoiding cocaine, but they're probably using higher quality cocaine rather than crack

  • Musk has staked Tesla’s future on self-driving vehicles he has promised for a decade but hasn’t delivered, making Austin's robotaxi launch closely watched as a potential milestone. Some analysts and investors attribute the majority of Tesla’s stock market value to hopes for robotaxis and humanoid robots it has yet to deliver.

We've had Waymo and Zoox operating in town for years. Waymo started road testing here almost 10 years ago now. Tesla is so far behind on this it's not even funny. I expect their cars to be subject to vandalism, also.

Edit to add: All they're saying they don't want released are deployment patterns, like how many cars, where, and when. Whatever, that info is basically useless anyway. That they're fighting so hard to conceal useless info demonstrates they already lack confidence in their service

  • This image of shadows on the rings and others like it (see PIA11656 and PIA11655) are only possible around the time of Saturn's equinox which occurs every half-Saturn-year (equivalent to about 15 Earth years). The illumination geometry that accompanies equinox lowers the sun's angle to the ringplane and causes out-of-plane structures to cast long shadows across the rings.

Super cool to read about this. Thanks for sharing

  • The line of arthropods that broke off to become Insecta did so in the Devonian Period, roughly 400 million years ago. Centipedes evolved in the fucking Silurian. Comparing these two groups is kinda like comparing raccoons, possums, and platypuses to fish.

  • Yes, but you'll barely feel that. They sting with their stingers, which are so small you typically won't even feel it at first. If you watch them sting up close, some of them will grab onto you with their mandibles and furiously sting you with their stinger repeatedly. Ants evolved directly from wasps and are basically wingless wasps, which is why they're such dicks
