Yes, I am aware of Nintendo's hubris. However, that Does Not prove that Microsoft is capable of doing the same. In fact, I think if they could it would be a Pretty Fluffing Big Deal that would be talked about a lot more. However your comment is the first I've ever seen mention of the possibility of Microsoft doing it, so I'd really love to see a source.

It does remain to be seen whether the ROG Xbox Ally devices will have a locked down bootloader, but I still very much doubt it.

What? No they can't, stop spreading bullshit. If that was the case it would be much, much harder to install a different OS. I can tell you from experience though that it's no harder than any other x86 PC.

Why does that scare you? Your laptop would be designed to handle the thermal load of the CPU running at full tilt. As well, modern CPUs "boost" up to their full power level, so if they start to overheat they can "throttle" back down to prevent any issues. Worst case, they will shutdown before damage occurs.

Otherwise, yeah, running at 100% all day, every day can shorten a CPU's lifespan. But doing it for a couple hours here and there is gonna be fine. You get similar usage if you're rendering a 3D scene with blender, for example.

Importantly, what we here as consumers pay for medications is NOT what the drug companies are paid for them by the government. Every single scrap of reporting I've seen on this has neglected that fact. My ADHD meds cost the government over $100 per month.

I believe if you tell the downloader you have a Nvidia 10-series card then it'll give you proprietary drivers that still work on newer cards. I have a 10-series and haven't had these issued fwiw.
