  • the shooter was a right winger. we know this. it was not ideologically motivated, dude just wanted to do something 'important', and his right wing beliefs led him to believe shooting someone, which he was insecure about, was what he should do.

  • are you kidding? westworld ABSOLUTELY fits! did you not watch the first two seasons? or even just the finale of season 1? the old engineer and his redemption arc, the robot girl and her apotheosis? the jaded nihilistic madame and breaking her programming, proving she's her own person, by breaking her code, possibly in a way that was planned by a manipulative bastard who played everyone around him for decades, blurring if not effectively erasing the line between humanity and our creations, emphasized by the man in black's whole arc, in kind of a more drawn out version of the cinematic cut of blade runner you can't even find anymore?

I was inspired by cowboy bebop and dune! not to, you know, become the chosen one or a space bounty hunter, but, like, you know, in other ways. they were beautiful. they said stuff about life. they touched my heart. they taught me about myself. cowboy bebop in particular really drove home the beauty of the temporary, of relationships even if they weren't forever, the beauty that can come from facing your trauma, your past, and potentially even your death, and also inspired me to be a deeply annoying weeb for a couple years, among other philosophical shit.

  • see, this is why you linux cultists just cannot sway people, you're all pushing this insane operating system that can't even print to a printer that's powered off in a block of concrete launched to orbit a distant star and be a russel's teapot to drive any aliens sending probes out mad.

  • brevity, especially in explicitly political messages, matters. nuance WILL be lost, communication has two sides, and sometimes you cannot convey perfect truth, you need to lose a little fidelity. so "JD vance is an incel" is true enough for literal government work.

  • he's an incel who got laid. philosophically, psychologically, socially, he still is. he just got his dick wet a few times. as much as they whine about it;the difference isn't big enough to waste valuable bandwidth defining.

  • counterpoint: what if I reinvent phrenology to explain why nobody's fucking my pasty bloated hikikomori ass, then add in a TON of mysogyny to my racism to bolster my ego? that sounds way easier. plus, I don't have to go outside ever again.

  • download the whole thing

all the functional parts are server calls, app or website. all of them. buying a ticket involves authenticating with both the owner's server and my bank. that's a network thing. can't download my ticket til I do that, site or app. even looking at a timetable (i dont see where in the app I can do that? but point to point trips) on the app doesn't work when im in airplane mode, but I know for a fact my browser caches, and if I've looked recently or left the page open, it will still be there when I come back.

there's no advantage of an app, unless you're doing fancy graphics shit, which eats battery like a mother fucker and makes low end devices much more unhappy.

  • yes, im a linux cultist who was really sad when windows 7 stopped getting updates.

instability is instability. you don't make a factory in a politically unstable place, and you don't use a product from a for-profit company that is prone to enshittification and could remotely brick it at any point without warning. risks are risks.

  • but I... it... it's a PDF, its stored on my phone. I downloaded it. I actually still have it, if I need to prove I was on the train. its not in the app anymore, but I still have it here.

you know you can't make a PURCHASE on an app without network access, right? like, it has to interact with your bank and generate the code (and that's done on their server, so you can't make yourself free tickets) and update "this ticket is valid" in the system. the app is literally just a web site with fewer features. all the important math happens on the server. usually, not even a timetable is stored locally, and it still has to be retrieved from the network, it doesn't even cache, I bet. I could check, but I would have to find my phone.
