  • Its not hard to copy your aliases to other machines. All my machines run NixOS, so they all have my home manager config. I would assume you could easily copy shell configs with tools like ansible as well. For aliases it's as simple as copying your .bashrc over.

At my last job where I was regularly doing this, every user had a home directory that would be mounted onto any server we accessed, so all of us could have whatever shell customizations we'd like.

  • Yep, according to Wikipedia they finished the transfer in September 2022. Completely agreed, I don't interact with anything crypto related, just glad to see it not destroying the environment and raising hardware prices.

  • That's really not how it works, especially in regards to what OP is referring to. Anyone can offer contributions to mastodon, but that doesn't mean they'll be accepted. Mastodon has an organization and that organizations has opinions on what should and shouldn't be implemented. For example, Mastodon doesn't federate favorites, so you only see the amount of favorites a post has recieved from your own interest. I'd like for this to be changed, and I could submit a PR to do so, but it wouldn't be accepted.

  • That's true, but you can still learn from a distro that's easier to use out of the box. Then, if you'd like to learn more, you can switch to a more bare-bones option. OP doesn't seem to be interested in learning to configure a distro himself.

  • if you're unfamiliar with Linux and do not want to deal with a lot of troubleshooting you shouldn't use arch. You chose a distro that comes with a very minimal configuration, which makes it your job to get a lot of it working. It's also a rolling release, apps will update more often and with less testing, meaning you're likely to experience bugs.
