  • Linux gaming and selecting a non wayland distro seems an unusual choice. If gaming is your main usage, something with wayland and especially gamescope would be better. Beside that, welcome to the other side!

  • A friend of mine, which sounded exactly like you. Solo trippin to cure himself, multiple times and that it is the best thing ever. At some point he spammed a group chat with weird nonsense until he mentioned that he is going to die and that we should send an ambulance. They found him laying in front of his flat in the snow tripping like hell, lol. That guy is the perfect example, why people shouldn't do that (alone). I'm not saying people should not do drugs or that psychedelics cannot help to cure depression. It needs a setting, instructions and someone who has experience, can guide you and is sober.

  • I also had kde neon and switched to kubuntu. Its really nice and only has minor issues. I also tried opensuse beforehand, which was not a good experience, for example the sound did not work (which is a typical probl, at least says their wiki and the fixes were obsolete, but not documented that they were.) and as a final straw, YouTube video played without hw acceleration, even with codecs installed.

I had less problems with endeavour os (arch), which runs on a second rig as a steamdeck.

  • Not a good advice. A friend of mine is still on win7 and it still works and got security updates time to time. But some programs actually stopped working or only older lts versions remain workings. Win10 is probably still ok for a year or two.

  • Nice to her! Which vsts do you use? Sadly i stopped doing music some years ago, but i have bitwig and some bought vsts. I wondered using them will be an issue. Like if they have an installer for windows.

  • I recently made the switch and motivated a friend who is still on win7 to go to linux. While installing and setting up his system i realised that you still need some konsole handling skills, that normal windows user not really have. To me thats normal, growing up with dos and win311, but if you started with win 2000 or later. Thats all new stuff.

I think laptops/computers that are all ready setup completely usable, should be a thing, thought.

  • As a student i get annoyed thr other way arround. Just yesterday i had to tell my group of an assignment that we need to understand the system physically and code it ourselves in matlab and not copy paste code with Chatgpt, because its way to complex. I've seen people wasting hours like that. Its insane.
