  • Think about how fast the people will be moving through the portal, their matter will be shoved through extremely quickly so it wouldn't be right for them to suddenly lose that momentum when they're all the way through.

  • I go back to a few almost routinely.

    • Mount and Blade: Warband (with and without mods)
    • Rocket League
    • Crash Bandicoot 2&3
    • OpenTTD
    • Pokemon (The mainline ones are all basically the same game lol)

For M&B and OpenTTD, being able to rely on my old knowledge of the game to succeed feels satisfying since they both have a steep learning curve.

For RL and Crash, muscle memory taking over the majority of play is relaxing.

For Pokemon I just have a crippling amount of nostalgia

This article further quotes that Pentagon spokesperson, who specified that the balloon did not send data back to China due to mitigation efforts that the US took.

Additionally, https://www.wsj.com/articles/chinese-balloon-used-american-tech-to-spy-on-americans-2e3f5039 having off the shelf parts does not necessarily mean it was a regular weather balloon. It took photos and videos, potentially of some of the secure areas it just happened to fly over. Note that while this article claims it used US gear, the included Pentagon quotes don't back that claim up, instead saying past balloons used off the shelf US equipment.

  • I have no clue what you're trying to say in your text, but other countries (namely Canada) did also spot Chinese balloons above their territory. There was also evidence that these balloons had equipment on board that did not line up with what is expected on a weather balloon.

  • The reactions around sync and people seeing "reddit behaviors" (read: human behavior) are incredibly toxic and tiring. Let people enjoy themselves and do what they want if they aren't hurting anyone else. Lemmy/Kbin as a whole are growing, and I think that's awesome in general that the community is working together to make their own social network. Let's not soil it with pointless infighting and "better than thou" attitudes.
