  • The analogy talks about mixing samples of music together to make new music, but that's not what is happening in real life.

The computers learn human language from the source material, but they are not referencing the source material when creating responses. They create new, original responses which do not appear in any of the source material.

  • I have the update and it makes sense to me. I don't want to accidentally click install while scrolling through search results. The arrow functions as a drop down preview of the app for easy comparison. The install button is still there on the main app screen.

  • Plex is still a good choice. I find that Jellyfin has better performance, recognizes and organized my media better, but it's more complicated to set up remote access on jellyfin.

I would prefer to move to Jellyfin long-term but I need to get access to port forwarding from my landlord first.

  • When I rent cars I usually reserve a Toyota Corolla, they are usually the cheapest or second cheapest rental category and they come with adaptive cruise with 3 choices of follow distance and I've been really impressed with it, as Subaru driver.

  • The difference is that some users have been using sync for a decade and using Lemmy for only a month. So it's a lot easier to mentally justify supporting a developer who you've been benefiting from for so long.

I have also donated to my local instance, I really hope to see it all grow together.

  • I just bought a lifetime license for Sync. The customization, feature set, and options put it well above the 5 other Lemmy apps I've used. With almost a decade of consistent upgrades to Sync for Lemmy, I trust and support this developer.

I don't think I paid very much for the original version so I don't mind supporting him now but I understand that's not for everyone, so I think $20 for lifetime ad-free is very reasonable.

  • In Sync settings under View Type, you can enable the option to hide a post from the main feed view. In fact, there's a lot of additional features that can be enabled and customized, the options menu is enormous and it really can be customized to your personal preferences.
