  • Are you kidding? It was fucking quoted. Did you even read the goddamn thread? They were answering a "why" it was only airtags. Ffs. Going out of your way to defend someone who interjected how great apple is for no reason. Can only wonder why you would defend it....

  • I just use a DigitalOcean VPS. $6+tax a month, plus some other self-hosted services. Don't have to worry about being connected to home or buying a Pi. Still may be more expensive, but not by much (only $4-$6 more expensive depending on how much you use the internet), but this also allows you to setup your own DNS if you want as well.

  • It looks like support is either up to the developer or simply optimization is up to the developer. They mention that extension devs should start optimizing their desktop extensions for mobile but doesn't say whether that's required or simply suggested as a non-optimized extension may not work properly.

But theoretically, any extension at the very least could be made to work on mobile. It appears to be an open system as opposed to now where it's only approved ones.

  • I don't know. I just had a discussion where someone told me it'd unrealistic to give up YouTube for the alternatives and yadda yadda yadda. It bears reminding that not everyone is as privacy-minded and make up nowhere near a majority. Not caring what happens because you aren't using chromium is dangerous. It's still about you and it's still going to affect you.

  • I mean, they can't personally use those billions on themselves, so the family is still less wealthy for it. Sure it still gives them political power, but personally, I'd rather have the money than the power. So it's quite possible they do plan on doing good with it. And whoever gets the trust after them still will be required to use it in a relatively narrower way as opposed to the family just buying another house or something.

So it's true to be skeptical, but I don't know if I'd argue it's purely setup to shelter money since it doesn't really shelter money. Its like putting money in an FSA to avoid taxes. Sure, you avoid taxes, but you can only spend it on medical supplies. Is it really sheltering at that point? Honestly, it's kind of sad that the FSA is only example I can think of that most people could theoretically relate to. Billionaires just live in a different reality.

  • It's watch different videos. It's petitioning your favorite creators to join a different platform. Get them to post videos on both platforms or something. That you think it's just giving up and not doing anything is silly. How sad is the future if no one is willing to try for anything better anymore because it's not comfortable? Damn.

  • YouTube videos being compared to a necessity like air is absolutely childish. That's an entirely different concept and it's only possible if you don't do what I just suggested. So you're basically fighting for that future. Good job. Maybe watch less YouTube? Books still exist. Many people get by in life just fine without being glued to a screen.

  • I mean, you went out of your way in multiple comments to not just say "Apple has a larger network so is more dangerous." In fact you didn't even say that. You had to let other people infer it from you repeatedly saying how great AirTags are and how superior they are.

Like, you're not wrong that it's a larger network. But you could have just said that. You're obviously a fan of Apple and preaching just a bit here.
