I mean, MSN is just a portal and I doubt there's much behind it besides what domains are popular. MSN "published" this the same way Google News published articles. It sounds better to say Microsoft did it, but it's from some news site called Race Track and it was simply scraped by MSN.

In a dictatorship with an AI being in control, I don't think there's a question of accepting consequences at they very least.

There is no such thing as best case scenario objectively, so it's always going to be a question of what goals the AI has, whether it's given them or arrives at them on its own.

An AI running the world is not a democracy. I don't see how that would play a part in this at all. A majority of the world likely does not concur with the resource allocation as it is but are powerless to do anything.

I don't think this post implies the AI isn't capable of enforcing its reign.

I mean, it seems weird to say "was". It came out 6 months ago. It may technically be accurate, but the connotation makes it sound a lot older.

I feel like you just used a lot of words to say resource allocation is a problem. And the other commenter said an algorithm would be better at it.

There are other forms of machine learning that could be utilized. Some work more toward being given a set of circumstances to reach and then it just keeps trying to new things and as it gets closer, it just keeps building on those.

It likely ranges. A lot of time the counterfeit is good cheese, it's just not from the correct region. It's not like buying a "Soony Walkman" or something. And if you can't tell it's counterfeit by how it tastes after the fact, then who is this program protecting?

I find the "stricter" meaning more ambiguous though. Nerd still applies to many subclasses of people back in the day. If you read too many books, nerd. Played video games? Nerd. Did math for fun? Nerd. Chess? Nerd. So saying "classic nerd" doesn't say much.

And in regards to being negative or not, it was more the ambiguity of their opening. They said the word "nerd" isn't negative anymore because it's watered down. So when they made a non-watered down version, it just seemed questionable in regards to the reason given for not being negative anymore.

Based on their response, yeah, I think it was just poor wording.

My gatekeeping was referencing a need for "classic nerd" vs "nerd". I find no need to differentiate between what it "used" to mean and what it means today. It makes more sense to categorize the type of nerd to be honest. I don't think anyone is "just" a nerd. They're a nerd in a certain topic or subject.

Nerd means the same thing, just expanded to include different topics. Nerd back in the day could mean various things. You could be a nerd for liking dinosaurs "too much" but didn't mean you knew about computers. So it's just that saying "classic nerd" doesn't really clarify who yorue talking about.

I think you're missing the point. It's that they built it to begin with. And it's not always enclosed. Stadiums exist all over that aren't air conditioned and don't close. It's the level of effort to overcome the heat. Yet we still can't air condition damn Amazon warehouses or UPS trucks. Both of those have had folks pass out from heat.

Nah. It's because they want to sell data. It's super easy to comply unless you collect data from visitors. And you literally just have to say "if you click no, then we won't collect data". Some sites go out of their way to actually force you to opt out of every single cookie.

Uploads would likely be a lot more affected as your connection is very lopsided. I should have been more specific that down is a lot more difficult to max out. And uploads are more affected by your connection speed. So yeah, uploads you may see a difference. Depending on what you're torrenting though, VPN is likely safer for that to begin with.

Personal data is an enormous market in the US. Too many big players located here. It'd never happen unfortunately. We'd need to replace all of Congress with folks who actually care about rights and people instead of money. We have only a handful on the left and that's only in the house, and that's being generous. I haven't seen any attempts really on the right. So it'd be a long time until this is even remotely possible. I'd be amazed to see a senator actually care about people though. Or even a governor.

I mean, honestly, you'd have to already have poor Internet to not be able to max out most connections regardless. It's the lag that is affected and it's likely still under a second.

This is so confusing. Are you saying "classic nerd" is negative then? Your wording is kind of ambiguous. I don't think "nerd" has been watered down, just isn't very negative in the mainstream. I'd say it just means you're very enthusiastic about a certain topic. I don't think folks would call someone who just plays one video game a nerd, unless it's only one video game and they are super into it, like a "WoW nerd" maybe.

I don't think there's any need to gatekeep "nerd" though and require any additional qualifiers on it like "classic". Just seems like you're trying to say "actual" without sounding elitist about it.

Proton has a similar feature (not sure if it's part of free or premium as I subscribed for proton ultimate so it just came with Proton Pass). It's honestly crazy how nice having TOTP right in the extension for the account's entry in the manager.

Also, I realize this is like the third time I've made a comment about Proton, so I'm probably gonna stop before folks think I'm like a shill or something.

They are working on password sharing, but it's not here yet (I remember reading it in an email not too long ago that mentioned all the things on the horizon in the coming year if I recall, so it might not be super soon, but "soon"). So it might be a fit for you in the future, but for now I'd suggest sticking with Bitwarden (or some other app that meets your requirements).
