You own your brain in the same sense that you own modern devices, you own it but also can't really modify it and there is some closed source shit that really control it

  • Personally I just hate the brain disruption of partially censored things. Whole words, sure, my brain smoothly fills it in, but asterisks in the middle of words fuck with it. I don't have any problem with someone not wanting to swear, but the concept of someone not wanting to swear and then doing so anyways and half assedly covering it is bizarre to me

  • It's shades of gray. A company that rents out millions of houses is millions times worse than your aunt. Your aunt is still contributing to unaffordable housing and keeping 2-3 families from permanent housing. How bad she is is up for debate and I for one don't care to debate that. Being upset about people like your aunt is pointless when we should be insanely angry about corporate mass homeownership.

  • Random person who took a material science course in college here, polymers like polyethylene are constructed from their component monomers in chemical reactions. Not all monomers end up in a polymer chain, and some remain trapped in the material. These are what leeches out of the plastic over time. Better manufacturing processes have cut down a lot on this over time but it's not something that can be eliminated entirely. These are also referred to as micro plastics sometimes, and sometimes not--it depends on the knowledge of the person speaking and whether or not it suits their point. Anyways, there's your not so fun fact for the day.

  • I've had suicidal ideation going on for longer than I haven't, almost 2/3rds of my life. I have suicidal intrusive thoughts all the time but discarding them is second nature to me at this point and I only struggle with them when things get really bad, like the past several months
