Don't dismiss it based on that criteria. It's a particular type of study called a case study where they go more in-depth on a particular case or set of cases. Of course it should be complemented by other types of studies, but that's just true of science in general. The danger, of course, is when laymen and journalists get excited over something like a case study and start spreading bad advice.

Diabetes can damage the kidneys, so presumably the patient got a kidney transplant. But yeah, looks like the journalist is getting the causation the wrong way round, I can't think of why a kidney transplant would recover pancreatic islet function.

I'm curious where COSMIC will land. It takes the previous iteration of Pop!, which used a lot of extensions on top of GNOME, and instead uses Rust as its main implementation language. So far, its applications have seemed very snappy, but that of course doesn't mean that they are light on the RAM usage when it comes to a 2GB computer.

Along those same lines, the Lapce IDE is fairly lightweight. It's no vim, but it is a very good GUI. I am running it on my 10 year old laptop, 8 GB, and it is noticeably more performant than VS Code on a new computer.

It will be more efficient eventually, just not yet. The technology isn't mature yet. But as you've noted, those "pro-free market" Floridians and Alabamans want to ban it, because global elites and eating bugs or something.

I think this is just one of those "language is complicated" things. I'm seeing multiple definitions out there. I don't know really how much it matters, it starts to approach a semantic argument and getting away from the actual concrete events that have occurred.

Disemboweling is disemboweling, dismemberment is dismemberment, neither one has any bearing on intent. Beheading implies the bombs were dropped at least in part to decapitate children, which there is zero evidence of. But again, I don't think the intent distinction necessarily matters that much, given that Israel bombed an area where this was a foreseeable outcome.

I'm not sure how material the difference is, but you're correct: beheading is deliberate decapitation. I assume they're just being sloppy about definitions.

Personally, I prefer a helmet mirror. Riding against traffic means that you reduce the reaction time for drivers. If you're going 15 mph and the driver is going 30 mph, you are approaching at 45 mph. If you are both going the same way, the driver is approaching at 15 mph, giving three times more time to react. It also tends to place you in spots on the road where you are not expected. A helmet mirror isn't as good as a straight-on view, but the tradeoffs are worth it.

There isn't a federal standard, but there is a common state-level standard in the US with class 1, 2, and 3. Class 1 cuts out at 20 mph and must be assist-only. Class 2 also cuts out at 20 mph, but may also have a throttle that works without peddling. Class 3 cuts out at 28 mph and may or may not have a throttle. Technically there are laws around not taking class 3 e-bikes in some spots, but I have found with mine as long as I ride it like a class 1 (15-20 mph max), no one bothers me. However, none of them require a license or insurance.

In the same vein, a Kinesis Advantage keyboard. I bought my first one fifteen years ago and now have two more. As a software developer, I do a lot of typing. It took some time to get used to the unusual form, but it was worth it.

I heard an interesting grand theory of conspiracy theories. Many people want the world to be well ordered and easily understood in black and white. Alas, the real world is chaotic, unpredictable, and confusing. To bridge that gap, they reach for religion, conspiracy theories, or both. Can't comprehend evolution? The seven day creation story is nice, neat, and simple. Incredulous that humans could develop the technology to get to the moon? Clearly it is a clever Hollywood director.
