  • I recently started playing Pokémon Omega Ruby on my 3DS. I started it on December 15, 2014, and stopped playing after the second gym. I had finished Pokémon X back when I got it, but it looks like I didn't want that much more Pokémon or got distracted by something else. I went back to the same save, and I have some Pokémon that have been training with me for over 10 years 😅 I already got 6 gym badges and plan to keep playing. The DS is such a great console. Such a shame to see the Internet related stuff on 3DS games which we can't officially use anymore. I need to check this out...

On the Switch I've been playing Yars Rising and Mega Man 7 from the Legacy Collection. Yars is ok so far. Mega Man 7 I played it before but I never finished it, I've played the NES ones (and X) more.

  • Super Nintendo is mostly The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 🙈

I played 75 games this year on Switch! It's interesting to see the diversity when it comes to most played each month. I started with Mario Wonder, had months with beat 'em ups as most played (Streets of Rage 4, Shredder's Revenge, Double Dragon Gaiden) and others with retro games (Perfect Dark on the Mature N64 being the most played one month).

This end of the year review is pretty cool, but I wish we had stats like we did on the Wii U and 3DS 😥

  • This looks very cool!

  • They've been uploading them one at a time. Probably to generate hype about the DKC theme park opening next week. Maybe Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing are next 👀

  • I don't remember if I even finished the first level on DKC Returns. I think I rage quit very early, so I can't say 😅

  • That's a great sale for Portal! I'd buy them, but I own them on Steam already, better spend that money on new games (I'm repeating to myself so I don't buy them again). They're such amazing games though...

  • Yeah, DKC can be pretty tough! It's also the only one I've played. I've played 2 and maybe 3 a few times but just to try them out. I have the goal to dedicate more time to them some day! And I'm looking forward to the Switch HD remake, I hated the motion controller gimmick on the Wii too much to enjoy it 😅

  • I'm suspecting something might get added at the end of the last graphic next year 👀

  • Yeah, I have the first one on Game Boy and while they're quite impressive on a technical level, it's really hard to play (particularly on original Game Boy without any color help).

  • Edited to add the timestamp when it starts

  • I didn't grow up with Atari, I was born a bit later. So I don't have any memories attached to it. But I really liked the format and I think you can really enjoy the games more in the context of the interactive documentary. And some of them are just timeless classics. Llamasoft is the story of Jeff Minter, one legendary game developer who's developed so many games. It must be great to learn about his career and play the games in this doc format.

I hope Retrorealms is doing well, because the game hints at new games in the future. I can imagine Freddy Krueger being next...

  • I've been playing the Retrorealms Halloween/Ash vs. Evil Dead games. Mostly Halloween. They're pretty fun so far!

I got Atari 50: The Anniversary Cellebration Expanded Edition on Friday, and I've been really enjoying it. I love the format of interactive videogame documentary, it's amazing and there's so much interesting content. I'd love to get Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story too in this same format, but as of March 2024, physical was in planning stage with platforms to be determined. I haven't found any news since then :(

Also looking forward to being able to get Tetris Forever, another an interactive documentary videogame, physical version apparently next year...

  • It's good to have official confirmation 🙌

  • Yeah, the worst day was when I was too sick to even look at a screen 😅

I did get Brütal Legend in a Humble Bundle yes. Looks like it was Humble Indie Bundle 9 in September 2013, back when they were cool!

The game is still quite fun. Other than the humor (if you don't like Jack Black, it might not be the game for you), the gameplay is good and has lots of different mechanics.

  • I was off work sick for a few days, so I decided to catch up with Super Mario RPG on Switch. I finished it and did a bit of the aftergame stuff, and it was quite fun. The style is amazing, I really enjoyed how pretty everything looks in this remake. The easter eggs and the humour in general are really good.

The negatives are the battles get a bit repetitive at times. And: ::: spoiler spoiler Whoever designed the 3D maze seems to have a personal vendetta against gamers and hates us with a passion. It did some damage... 😆 :::

I also played some stuff on Steam. Titan Attacks (a modern Space Invaders with a cool style) and Syder Arcade when in a mood for pew pew games and Brütal Legend which I've had for years and only just now can play with a decent set up.

  • I use ~/workspace . I think I got this from when I first started using Java years ago. Eclipse created new projects in this directory by default maybe?

  • This game was so impressive and really fun on the Wii U. It could be a big seller for the Switch!

I wonder why it took them this long to bring it to Switch. Maybe there's a sequel coming out for the next console.

  • This looks amazing, but I can't get another Sonic game before I finish playing the ones I got! 😆

  • What? The weekend's already here? Where did the week go? I need to look at my backlog and choose some games!

I remember Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition for Wii U was amazing. One of the few games that did really good use of the Game Pad, I had a lot of fun with it. I was tempted to get the collection for Switch, I assume it looks way better than on Wii U (which wasn't really an issue for me). But I don't know if I'd play all three of them from scratch...
