Nintendo's E3 2001 - High Quality Trailers

  • I started playing The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past on Nintendo Online. It's one of the Zeldas I have started several times and never finished. This time I intend to finish it before Echoes of Wisdom comes out! Some stuff I remember from previous unfiinshed playthroughs, others are just "Oh, this is Zelda, so I bet if I do this..." and it works. Feels very familiar 2D Zelda, hope I definitely reach the ending this time!

I got Thank Goodness You're Here today, which I think is supposed to be just a few hours long. So far it's a silly, funny game and the graphics are amazing. It's like playing a cartoon, really fun so far, would recommend (and it's currently discounted 15% on the eshop).

  • I know what you mean, I feel exactly the same with the NES Double Dragon games.

  • I'd recommend starting with River City: Rival Showdown. It came out originally on 3DS and remastered for the Switch. I haven't played it on the Switch, but it's probably the closest to the original, but being new-ish. In case you want to try it out, the original River City Ransom is on Nintendo Online NES (and can also be bought on the eshop 🙈) and if I recall correctly it can be finished in a couple of hours.

River City Girls is in the same universe and has some of the same RPG elements of the original, but is kind of its own thing. It's definitely more modern, still fun. I still need to finish the second one, maybe this DLC motivates me to play it again next!

Finally, there's River City Saga: Three Kingdoms which is also in the style of the original, but made for modern consoles, in case you love Rival Showdown and want to check out more River City.

  • Looking great! I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully they fixed the performance issues on the engine from Link's Awakening.

The Travel Waypoints reminded me of the Lumiknolls in Pikmin 4 night missions.

  • This looks pretty cool, but the shaky camera feels a bit much. Maybe it's not so bad during gameplay though.

  • I've been playing solo this time around, but I finished the story on co-op previously. Been doing some survival mode too!

  • Oh, I really enjoyed Horizon Chase Turbo, really fun. I used to play Top Gear on the SNES and it brought back memories. The music is amazing! Horizon Chase Turbo 2 on the other hand is absolutely crap on Switch (and from what I've heard, not much better on PC or other consoles). The Brazilian studio that developed it, Aquiris, was acquired by Epic and it all went downhill from there :( The first one is still awesome though and I still prefer it to the (broken) second one.

I got bored of Perfect Dark. I was having so much fun, but I definitely lost it at some point. Hopefully I'll pick it up again some time soon so I can finish it.

I'm playing a new Story Mode run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, it's just such a fun game! I haven't finished it with all the characters yet.

I also played some Gravity Circuit, which is super cool but also a bit hard? I think because I'm getting old, but I need to be in a certain mood to enjoy it.

  • It'll be a trilogy with "Deliver us Home", though the third one hasn't been announced for Switch (maybe Switch 2, since it's planned to release on 2026 and it's built on Unreal). Seems like a very interesting series to get into.

  • That's a shame, the graphics on the trailer look pretty good. Hopefully they'll fix it soon.

  • Haha, yeah, just recently became a mod there. It's still a bit quiet, but a nice community too!

  • This one is not for me, but TMNT fans have so many options this year on the Switch!

  • Yeah, maybe the Mature rating is just to mislead, and it's actually a new Yoshi's Island or whatever. That would be very funny!

  • Weird name for Switch 2, but I'll take it! 😆

  • This looks interesting. Metroid Dread vibes, but seems to be its own thing.

  • Yeah, 16/32 bits pixel art is timeless. F-Zero X and Star Fox 64 I think aged very well too.

  • I'm still playing through the Perfect Dark campaing on Switch. As you mention with OoT, once you get used to the controllers, you don't mind anymore. I thought maybe N64 games hadn't aged well since the 3D graphics were right from the start of the transition into 3D, with not too many polygons. But the gameplay is still fun, which is the main thing. And the old graphics have their charm!

I also had some friends come over and since one of them had mentioned she liked Bubble Bobble, I got Bubble Bobble 4 Friends. I wouldn't get it for myself, but it turns out to be really fun and chaotic on couch co-op with 3 other people. It starts easy and gets quite challenging, mostly when there's so much stuff on screen (or I'm old), but I guess that's the goal.

  • Yeah, it's sad that people will make a whole deal out of each answer when it's mostly corporate speak without really saying anything too interesting.
