  • I can't speak for actual Western billionaires but I had the chance to speak to a few Arab billionaires (member of the ruling families) and a few Western multi-millionaires (as in hundreds of millions).

In terms of the western ones: They don't have a fear for their money, they have enough hidden accounts and real estate around the world that they will never run dry.. They fear for the same thing: Their lifes. Basically in two ways: Partly they fear that some random leftist or a terrorist group like the Italian Brigate Rose or the German RAF will simply shoot them in the head or kidnap them so they can make a point. (Which is quite strange as none of the people I spoke with was even out of elementary school when these groups operated - but they were really afraid of them, not of some common criminal)

The other thing is that they all were really really afraid of ending like the Romanovs - that there would be some kind of political turn and all of a sudden the "masses" stand in front of their estate with pitchforks and torches and hang them. (That's literally a quote from one of them) Funny enough: None of them were afraid of the right wing - even though their families sometimes literally once lost almost everything to the fascists, etc.

Personally that explains a lot of the current state of the world. Money will always gravitate towards right wing politics as the right wing is always fixed on a strong leadership structure - which makes it easy to identify who you need to "befriend" or bribe if you want to keep your money. And people who have seen political turmoil in a role where they felt unable to control their own social standing anymore also have a tendency to gravitate towards these structures. Et voilà you have a armchairs psychologists explanation for Elmo. Well,if you add in a LOT of ketamine.

  • If you want something really really stable I can recommend 2N a lot. They cost a bit more,as they are mainly geared towards professional users, but they absolutely know what they are doing.

Whole thing works completely "off the cloud" and without any subscriptions (there is one available for their app - but that's more a convenience feature, they literally tell you how to use other apps).

The whole environment is based on plain old SIP so it works with basically everything - I have an answering unit, but I also can use my snom phone or my SIP app to answer the door. The door unit can simultaneously be their own PBX and/or integrate in an external SIP environment.

The camera itself can also provide RTSP,ONVIF,etc. if needed and plays along with Fregate, etc. quite nicely.

And the automation interface(which requires a add-on licence, but single payment) is based on node red.

Integration in HA is a breeze due to that.

It works with PoE, but 2 wire conversion kits are available. And LTE.

I can absolutely recommend them. (And I do not sell them, don't worry. Just a happy user who got screwed over by other manufacturers too often)

  • I have no comparison to conventional electric - it might still be cheaper with induction. But I use induction for 10 years now, exclusively (and had gas before that).

But it's the general cooking as well. Two ovens (One with steam, one conventional,of course not always used together, but it happens), other kitchen stuff, it is fairly interesting how big the peaks are that are created this way. And don't get me wrong - our kitchen is kind of a upper market one in terms of appliances (the wood on the other side is run off the mill and was dirt cheap),but it's also the thing that brings my family daily joy and I am more than happy to pay the power bill - but nevertheless I am still surprised.

  • I can see if someone is on the toilet and having a Nr.2 by checking the power draw of the Japanese style toilet. (I also have a presence detector). I do not monitor the first part intentionally, though.

I unintentionally catched some birds eating on camera and that led to us installing a designated bird cam - in a 3D printed bird house. The AI model for identification is still in the works though - there aren't any good European based ones available as open source so I still will need to work out my own.

I found out the kid is reading FAR more than thought and is using the PC far less than I thought. Sorry kiddo!

CO2 is going up far more than expected, yes. What I found more interesting, though, is the direct connection between the humidity and my sinus infections - I always get them if my room air gets to dry.

Cooking releases an ungodly amount of VOC and uses FAR more electric energy than I thought.

And: After two years of optimisation I can control the temperature in two very sun exposed rooms just by using the covers and a weather forecast extremely well. Means they are up to 4° colder in the summer than before and 10° warmer in winter. Sadly this does not apply to all rooms.

And last but not least: Heating is the only point where home automation really saves energy here.

  • I would use a fixed document camera with a height adjustable holder/desk for the actual piece of the board. The former are often fairly high quality in terms of resolution at their fixed focal length as long as you have good lightning and can often be found for cheap used. They definitely will also have lens distortion, but it should be easy to create your own profile to counteract this when doing a few calibration runs. (I think there I came around a tool for that once, but can't find it now)

The height adjustable holder/desk makes it fairly easy to always keep the actual image plane in the same distance so your profile once calibrated would fit, additionally you can use it to bring the pane of the object in the right angle to towards the camera if it isn't "flat" enough. I personally would try to adopt a 3D milling table from AliExpress for it, put it in a box below the actual image pane and use a digital angle meter to make sure it's actually flat

With that you should be able to achieve an accuracy below 0.1mm at least

  • No,no,you misunderstood!

That is a complicated procedure that should only be performed by specialists,it's not comparable to what you do at home.

You get prior clearance from the buttfucking department of your insurance (they are always available and really good at this and also enjoy their job a lot) and then you get an appointment for a specialist within your network to buttfuck your doctor. If your insurance is good it can be 'Vlad the impeller', but most people only get 'Norman needledick' covered, but some choose a higher copay to afford 'Redneck Randy' at least.

Unless of course you are one of us Eurofilthys, we all get the same 'Pierre Puckerwrecker' to buttfuck our doctor after waiting for three years, but at least it's free

  • It was never a policy for most airlines and wouldn't really help too much as well - the menu items that are different are thoroughly heated(multiple times) and the menu items that could be an issue (=are cold)are coming from the same source. Furthermore it is extremely rare for airline food to cause food poisoning (like really really rare) and even less likely for them to cause food poisoning that incapacitate someone so fast an diversion landing is not an option. (And long haul has medication against the worst symptoms onboard) Norovirus e.g. would be a far more likely problem (and there has been at least one diversion landing because of it) and that is not food related at all.

  • Let them delete it under the GDPR. That will mean they have to truely truely delete it. And they would have to prove that you are currently not residing in the EU. Maybe use a European VPN for the notification.
