  • I would consider using your Synology for what it's good at - storage.

My homelab has a Synology DS1618 and servers are Lenovo M90q systems. They have enough compute to get the job done, and use the Synology NFS mount for storage.

  • Permanently Deleted

    • Step 1: download deb
    • Step 2: open a terminal
    • Step 3: sudo dpkg -i /path/to/yourde.deb

Now whether or not all the packages are fubared at this point is unknown, but that's how to install a deb file.

  • How long before companies start using this as an excuse for return to office?

Sure, you've been working here since before the pandemic, but maybe now you're a North Korean spy! The only way to be sure is for you to come into the office and average 4 days a week.

  • If this doesn't become official merch, it'll be the first misstep of the campaign.

  • I've been listening to the NoClip Crew cast podcast - they mostly talk about games they've been playing recently and after a few sessions you can really grok the types of games everyone on the pod enjoys. That mostly matches up with my play style, so it works nicely.

As an added bonus, they tend to highlight more independent/smaller game studios.

  • I wasn't sure about the Steam Deck, but my god man - it truly is the best of all worlds.

    • Playing games in bed with instant suspend/resume
    • Easy emulation of old (and new) consoles
    • Supports and excels at playing the vast majority of my old Steam games
    • Makes me snacks when I'm hungry.

I've played Chronotrigger on here, Skies of Arcadia, and Civ3. Lately I've been going through the Yakuza series for the first time.

I will say that I'm always a little tempted to get a console for the exclusive new titles, but I can never justify the price when I have such a big backlog of games already.

  • Yeah, for the integrated CI/CD, give GitLab a shot - it saves on spinning up a Jenkins or ConcourseCI server.

CI/CD can be useful for triggering automation after merge requests are approved, building infrastructure from code, etc.

  • I'll come out with an anti-recommendation: Don't do GitLab.

They used to be quite good, but lately (as in the past two years or so) they've been putting things behind a licensing paywall.

Now if your company wants to pay for GitLab, then maybe consider it? But I'd probably look at some of the other options people have mentioned in this thread.

  • Fun fact, it doesn't have to be an amendment - it can just be a normal law. The check on judiciary is if Congress and the President both say, " you got it wrong SCOTUS" and pass a law that specifically says things are different.

Now I'm basing that on my 9th grade civics knowledge which could be wrong... But I thought that's why there were pushes for contraceptive laws post gutting of abortion rights. Basically telling the high court, this is what we're doing now.

  • I mean, that fox host came real close with "colored" when he referred to one of the historic black fraternities/sororities.

    Give it time.

  • The undecided can be convinced during the campaign.

What campaign? The election is in 3.5 months. Every day that Biden doesn't step down is one less day for Harris to start ramping up her campaign efforts.

Also, please someone do a poll of the undecided who have strong feelings towards...

    • women
    • minorities
    • prosecutors

Although most may fall firmly in the Trump camp, I'm betting there are some undecided who think that women absolutely should not be president.

Not to mention waffling Republicans may be more incentivized to vote if the Democrat isn't an old white dude.

  • "Latinx" or "Latine"?

    Jump
  • As someone who used Latinx in a Lemmy post and then was down voted to oblivion, just go Latino or Latina. But good on you for asking people how they'd like to be called.

  • I'm legit curious (no that's not quite right, terrinquisive? Horrifious?) how they'll justify the exemption from term limits. My gut says it'll be something about two terms max consecutively for 2028, then if that works, just throw out the term limits in 2030 or have martial law spring up.

  • Pro tip, you can use Google lens to translate (if you're like me and don't care as much about my privacy/have an android phone).

  • Three days per work week "on average" - but with no details over what timeframe that average is calculated.

  • We'll my reading comprehension is quite shitty in the morning. Carry on with the down votes.

  • I don't know if it's even possible anymore (heck it's hard for me at 40), but try to put something in retirement funds. If your work as a 401k, try and contribute. If you leave the job, your money can then go to an IRA. How do you do that? Beats me - I have five or six requirement accounts, each topping out at around between $2-5k.

Also, brush your teeth and if you grind them in your sleep - get a dentist to fit you for a mouth guard.

Edit: wow, down votes for teeth health.

Edit edit: reading comprehension isn't my strong suite.

  • The one good thing about Google's Social media experiment was that guy who reviewed USBC cables to see if they actually adhered to the standards.

It's shocking how many didn't have the proper resistors or components to properly handle data and charging.

  • I started a new position in my company in February 2020, just weeks before the lock down. Since then I've been almost entirely working from home, coming into the office maybe 10 days over the past 4 years.

During that time I've been promoted, gotten a separate pay raise to a new band, helped onboard the entire rest of my team (two of whom are completely remote).

I've done nothing but prove over and over again that I am excelling at my job remotely.

They are still pushing for me to come back to a "hybrid" 3 day a week schedule. Madness.

  • I mean at least Biden is a slow roll, Trump would rather nuke them.
