Back when "reddit.com" was a subreddit. I remember the thread (you can still visit it today) regarding his early departure. And how Aaron and spez didn't really want to disclose the "real reason". But, it saddens me how the public viewed his contributions as complete nil in result of no full disclosure (Aaron did simply state corporate life (post acq.) was not for him, but everyone says that).
Especially during times like this when the same batch of Aaron's year (Altman, Huffman, etc) are pushing closed source thoughts. We need Open Access civics, like Aaron again.
yeah the way you phrased it. noticed again. i always felt I was aware of my motivations and actions the past decade. but now i have noticed that I was just lying to myself. the joy of creating for the sake of, was long gone.
it feels way less informative, more clickbaity and buzzfeed like. But, I am not sure if I am biased or not, I just feel more constructive on this site for some reason. and it feels like my mind is confused/calibrating to the concept that online forums can be constructive
To be honest, the whole social-market industry seems like just lumped together manic episodes at this point (past their initial implementation) with no direction or thought leaders. ala reddit, twitter, etc.
I don't understand the reason behind this. The consistency is all over the place behind the brand. Is this a lead-in into a larger idea? that will "connect all the dots". Or are these literally off the cuff changes? The creator payout for ads, seems like the only positive update that made sense recently, along with subscriptions, although those didn't really seem to affect the smaller accounts with <100k followers etc.
If this could be changed to add a UI element to identify self-proclaimed pundits I feel it would be better. I think just blocking people is not fair. But, being more aware of whom may help improve critical thinking.
Yeah that's a great thought, focusing on the author. Like in that long thread with another user, they also identified entertaining "punditry" instead may be more useful.
Passion as in, spending the time to look into the thoughts of the paper and spending the time to observe each student's work fairly to help the student improve on their writing. Maybe the plagiarism checker is wrong about something, and makes you skip reading through that section. But, infact the student may have laid out some interesting thoughts that should have received positive reinforcement.
Our overall discussion reminded me of this piece by Aaron Swartz aswell, thought it would be nice read to suggest: http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/anders, the specific piece is called "Confront reality"
Slowly removing passion. Its interesting seeing how things I would feel would increase passion (simply because it creates/saves more time), may have the complete opposite effect and thus going against the whole intention. I ignore this side a lot of the time.
From your first paragraph, was wondering (kind of, but not related to the OP). If there is an obvious variable around education that was physically experienced how can one incorporate tech (if it's their only tools available) to safely address the problem while being aware of original creative position of null bias or objectivity. Alternatively, they stem from a position of overestimation of one’s knowledge and/or abilities related to subjects that they don’t in fact know much about nor have much experience in.. Especially when they do not have the resources to gather data at the scale needed from every sociologist/philosopher of different focus, culture/subculture. Or the ability to be a part of higher education where you might meet people of this caliber?
Edit: I guess threads like these are a way of doing it, to be honest. But, then comes that variable of verifying. I am viewing life as if it needs to be fully merit based
Figure out what the truth is for you and leave that shit alone.
This actually got me thinking quite a bit and was hoping you'd expand on it. Is it more directed to building things that are not driven by a personal truth?
Where’s the nugget?
