I'd say it's more butterfly effect than Rube Goldberg. A Rube Goldberg would be engineered with the intent and goal of shooting and killing you. Anyone who has made one can attest to the time and effort and focus needed to get it to accomplish its goal (which in this case is killing you).

Gates' actions are not intended to kill you. Just to make himself rich. You are just collateral damage.

I mean it's still about as moral as burning down the Amazon rainforest to make some money, but Bill Gates isn't setting out with the goal to murder you specifically. Unless you slept with his wife or something.

The best laser printer is a Brother laser printer from 10+ years ago before the cartridge subscription bullshit.

I landed one for $5 on Craiglist and have it connected through a CUPS server so I still have the modern ability to print from any device on the network.

There's too much to be concerned about at this point that it's a waste of time to keep following what's happening. We can just assume literally the worst and it's likely to be true.

They are only big by number because they are some of the oldest instances. So they have a lot of inactive accounts and communities. The number of actually active users is less than .world or .ee.

They only seem more active because they are terminally online and have communities that are specifically designed to brigade threads when they don't like what's posted.

Just like with Elon Musk, if someone wants people to support them monetarily, they shouldn't work hard to make themselves objectionable to wide swaths of the population they are trying to extract money from.

Bottom line is:

1. 18 year old gets shot by police

Even if you are creating a display piece and not something functional, it's something you are making for yourself, and a limited number of them. You aren't mass producing Funko Pops of which millions will end up in a land fill.

What each individual defines as garbage is up to them. I'm certain there are very very few people who are literally printing garbage on purpose with their 3D printers.

And again the scale of waste is like 2 trillion to 1 comparing corporations to independent hobbyists 3D printing parts.

Being able to 3D print also allows one to repair things that otherwise would just have to be tossed in a landfill because some critical plastic piece broke.

And it allows users to create their own one-off objects that they need rather than a corporation creating an immense surplus of parts the majority of which will never reach consumer hands and will end up in a landfill.

Taking offense at people who 3D print for being bad for the environment is just concern trolling at this point.

If you think you may be arrested by the Gestapo, but booby traps around your house and a rifle next to the door as well as cameras all over your property.
