  • Okay so a cursory reading of Wikipedia (yeah I know, not the most credible) shows that you are correct about him being one of the key players in starting the online bank X.com with Peter Thiel and crew.

I concede that point! My apologies for casting aspersions.

  • Oh nice! I just like to warn people because I saw bridges get popular with Beeper and people don’t always catch that security-for-ease compromise

I’m not trying rip on Beeper, by the way. I don’t use them and never have. They could be totally legitimate and good-faith actors, but the reencryption issue with bridges sets my tinfoil hat off!

  • Also worth noting that communication between signal and matrix through most bridges requires the message to be decrypted and reencrypted, thereby breaking E2EE which kinda defeats the point.

Unless you’re running a bridge on a locked down home server on your own network, not sure it’s the most secure.

  • The civilians of Gaza, clearly and inarguably. They have been living for decades under aerial surveillance, need IDF permits to even visit a hospital outside Gaza, which is often necessary as the hospitals within Gaza have been under supplied for years. They also had the Israeli army only allow food imports sufficient to keep the population just above starvation levels. And the whole time, armed Israeli “civilians” have been forcibly evicting Palestinians from their homes in land to which Israel has no claim under international law.

To argue that a violent reaction to that kind of life makes anyone morally blameworthy is callous, bigoted, inhumane, and plainly wrong. If you think that, honestly, I am sorry for you.

  • The number of times W11 menu has tried to convince me to install TikTok immediately destroys the OS’ legitimacy in my eyes.

And then there’s the lack of customization; the shovelware and bloat; the random crashes and hangs with only a blue screen with an emoticon frowny face; the constant advertising; and the tracking of everything you do with the OS to feed advertising; the forced integration of cloud services like OneDrive…

Fuck windows. I’m not a programmer but I’ve been running Manjaro (I know, I know) as a daily driver on three different devices for 7 years now. The only true problem I’ve ever had was theming grub2 and fucking up the config, which was entirely my own fault.

  • Are you really trying to tell me that a good solution to our hollowed-out working class AND the climate crisis is to transition as rapidly as possible to renewable energy and sustainable tech that we design, develop, and produce in our own country????

You sound like a communist grrrrrr!

(I hope my sarcasm comes across. I’m very tired as I type.)

  • Where in the source that you linked does it say that a switch to electric stoves is an aspect of greenwashing?

Also to argue that is bad faith. Obviously corporations will want to greenwash themselves and provide us with cheap products. That’s their whole MO. However, that doesn’t mean that a product is bad de facto. That’s like arguing that because corporations producing solar panels have an interest in selling us solar panels, that solar panels are really actually not better for the environment than fossil fuels. I’ll give you credit for only forcing me to read a Bernie Sanders op ed, but your argument doesn’t make sense and your source doesn’t support it.
