Wasn't MTG doing crossfit? Maybe they should look into it. She could be not feminine enough for conservatives if she has been doing 'men activities' involving strength and muscles. Maybe MTG is secretly a men! Just sayin.

Or just a joke. I live in a city with a metro system, I use it, and as much as I've never personally seen a fight in the metro itself, they obviously happen. Some users are stabbed a few times a year. I've seen people jump over the tracks. I've felt a bit threaten by a beggar that I've once said I recognized.

And I'm not living in a very criminal city. I'm not saying the metro isn't safe, or that you'll see fights and brawls for the price of a ride, but it could happen. Like, take the metro when bars are closing and there's probably gonna be higher chances to see a brawl or a fight. I imagine it's similar in bigger cities with metro/subway systems as well.

And I want to stress that cities where this can happen are not inherently dangerous. There are much smaller cities that have a highest crime rate than the closest metropolis, but they don't have the density for a metro/subway system where you can thus see drunk people fight about something they already forgot.

It is I that misunderstood the whole thing.

But since we're here, I use an SSH server app worth about $3 on my phone to access it from other devices with an SFTP or SSHFS client. The app is literally called "SSH Server". Once the server is active I can use an app like Solid Explorer (free with ads or paying for a license) on another Android device to connect to my phone on the same Wi-Fi network. Or from Windows I can just map a network drive using the format \sshfs\user@ip. And on Linux just find the "Connect to server" option in your favorite file explorer to use SSHFS. Or any SFTP client of your choice.

I'm not familiar with Wi-Fi Direct since I've been using SSH for years now, and certainly much more work this way, but it works okay across all my devices.

If they come back, I hope they will be more accessible on foot, with a bike, or with efficient public transit. Because if they are still surrounded by deserts of parking lots, only filled with EVs instead of ICEs, they can continue to die.

Apparently it's when they are old enough to be in school shootings that they cease to be a precious important life to be protected at all cost.

I hope it's using a shit load of energy, like other "AI" stuff. Because we're absolutely not in a climate crisis where reducing consumption is necessary. More "AI" that consumes more power, that's exactly what we need.

You're right that their lives may not have been that bad compared to being in nature, but in the end, they probably should not have existed in the first place. They were not meant to be in nature from the start. They were meant as temporary living toys, for profit. At least they were not stuck in a key chain or something like that.

Seeing how one would probably not have survived in nature, it's probably best he ended up with me. But the one that died this spring was fierce, energetic and inquisitive. Frankly, she was a jerk and I could picture her being "happier" chasing fish in a lake rather than pellets in a small tank.

Maybe it's a very human and pretentious judgment to make for them, but I can't help but try to put myself in the place of another living thing. You can live safely in a small container with unlimited protein cakes but nothing else to do for all of your life, or you can go explore the world to your own risk and excitement. I know what I'd choose, for my physical and mental health. And I know some animals can get bored and depressed, but I'm not a turtle.

I do tech support on the phone.

When I can't take remote control, the person on the other side is not following instructions, and they just keep repeating "no, not working!" while trying multiple things one after another, that I can't see.

Like, I can understand not being good with technology, I'll be patient. But if I tell them to try loading the site in a private/incognito window and they're telling me "but I tried in Firefox and it's not working", it's not what I'm asking them to do. And if they're like "wait, I'll try again in Chrome" then repeat "nope, not working!", it's still not what I'm asking them to try!

Back in the middle of the 90ies, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a big thing and my mother thought it would be a good idea to gift my sister and I, a pair of red-eared sliders. I kept mine for years and eventually my sister gave hers to me. So I kept two turtles for decades. I have been known as "the guy with turtles" since I'm a teenager now.

One of them just passed away this spring, after more than 27 years, and she was not that old for her species, in captivity. The other one is still alive behind me, basking under the UV light, and it could be alive for another decade. And I like Mittens (his name) but he's taking a lot of space in my apartment. It's obvious both of them would have had a better life outside, in nature, rather than in my sometimes depressive care.

Don't gift animals.

Try explaining that to a Conservative. In fact, even very progressive politicians need to understand this.

I voted for Projet Montreal and Valérie Plante but unfortunately it seems like her answer to "crime is raising" is to dump even more money on the police.

I'm not a fan but from what I've heard they are pretty disappointed that the North American version is displayed on a giant LCD screen instead of being projected.

The only open source client that I know that worked with Steam is for bridging Steam's chats and notifications with IRC. It's called Bitlbee.

And i've stopped using it a few years ago because IIRC it was a pain to keep the authentication working with Steam. They thought hackers were accessing my account or something like that, and I kept having to disable security "features" just in order to stay logged in.

I assume an open source client not endorsed by Steam would have the same issue.

It's an interesting question. If someone could go back in time to try to shoot Hitler but ended up missing, would it still be a good deed?

I do try to be aware of my water supply. If I'm in a place where water is limited by default, like having a well, or when in a Caribbean country, I'll be careful as I know others will depend on that source in the very near future. But I live in Canada and from my immediate point of view, the St-Lawrence and the Great Lakes are not going to be dry soon. The only scarcity here is the energy required to pump the water (also provided by water), and its treatment.

And I do understand that our little collective efforts do add up. However, the issues are systemic. Only in a single region of my province (a region!), around 18 corporations and businesses are using more than 75 000 litres a day. We know just because they have to report it past that point. It adds up to billions of litres in a year. For a single region. The provincial government here also allows corporations to just pump the ground water for about $35 CAD by million of litres.

So again, I know that I could make a difference, if we all really tried. But because of the system, and since the pandemic, I've lost faith in our societies. I don't think most people care. While all hiding in our places a few years ago, while the production slowed down, people have seen the changes in nature, the air clean up... and they said fuck it we just want to go back to how it was before.

Just seeing multiple police cars running their engines 24/7 to stalk and bully some oh so dangerous anti-genocide students made me see that any effort to reduce air pollution on my part will be nullified by the system in general. It doesn't matter if I have car or not, if I recycle plastic while it's produced in the first place, or if I try to save a few litres of water while Nestlé... sigh.

Yes I let it run. Because honestly, I don't care. People will try make you feel guilty over using water while continuing to make excuses to drive everywhere and why they really need an electric car to "save the planet". Oh and please recycle while the city that collects the recycling sends it to the dump because this industry is not profitable. And use less water because giant tech companies are going to need it in order to cool and power some more AI servers.

I never owned a car and have driven only once in 40 years. But I know that whatever I do individually to reduce the amount of pollution in the air, it is absolutely useless and pointless. The army or the police will annihilate a lifetime of individual efforts in one day, or even a few hours. I could get a car right now and 90% of people would probably tell me I did the right thing, as a car is sooo useful. No problem as long as it's electric!

So uuh, I let the water run when I feel like it.
