  • Fishing is industrialized too, so that can be a problem, specifically with the aquatic ecosystem. For vegans, fish still have a central nervous system so they are deemed undesireable. I still would eat fish because of health reasons, though.

  • True, I suppose it depends on the country. In my country, many Papuans live in remote areas where it's hard to access basic necessities like medicine, let alone the internet.

  • His Dark Materials was like this. The Golden Compass was poorly reviewed, and I'm glad that the TV series were made.

  • What are your interests first? Then we can go from there

  • I like how many of the users don't resort to memes or namecalling (not that there aren't a few here and there) and the replies are straightforward

  • Three hours and no answers only one answer, which is understandable. Many of these people don't have access to certain technology because of their economic situation, and even when they do, their voices are so small that they get overshadowed by the majority. I'm not of a dying culture, but I am aware of the many tribes in Papua and how they're vulnerable from Indonesia's interference. While many of the Papuan tribes aren't dying per se, it's very difficult to get online opinions from (indigenous) Papuans in regards to whether their land is colonized by Indonesians, let alone from tribes that are dying.

  • Interesting concept for sure. And the collective report system may even tell the morality of the overall userbase. For example, a right-leaning comment may get mass-reported, but the same can apply with left-leaning comments, depending on the demographic of the platform's users.

  • Have you tried cross-posting? It posts the same thing to multiple communities without making duplicates on the front page

  • What about volunteering groups? I'm in my 20s but volunteering groups tend to have people on the older side. It helps that people in their 40s and over tend to be financially stable and would spend their free time to volunteer.

  • Apparently people who specialize in AI/ML have a very hard time trying to replicate the desired results when training models with 'poisoned' data. Is that true?

  • Now that you've mentioned it, subreddits with "r/Academic" as the prefix managed to create some communities here on Lemmy, but discussions continued on Reddit anyway

  • Same here. At this point I've effectively become an internet 'hermit' and avoid social media. Sometimes I'd even avoid Youtube because of how overstimulating the content are. I don't know how useful this will be for my wellbeing though, since I don't even 'touch grass' either. And yes, I'm autistic so the current state of the web is borderline intolerable for me.

  • This is the most realistic outcome imo. Even before AI there's already a pattern where employees jump through companies before they gather enough experience to make their own.

  • Really? I thought the Z Flip was pretty popular

  • I get what anti-AI people are trying to say: job replacements and accelerating corporate interests are big concerns that should be addressed at a systemic level. But honestly, just give me a solution where, I as an autistic person can talk to someone about things that no one else wants to talk about, and can help me solve my problems, and is available (especially emotionally) 24/7. If you can't do that, just let me be with my AI.

  • My ideal partner 😌

  • I'm afraid since I'm autistic but I also have some other marginalized identities. Not to mention that I was sheltered throughout my youth. It's hard to imagine the future nowadays.

  • I am amusingly disappointed that this has nothing to do with Marvel's Loki
