  • All these words saying "oh there's totally statistics that back up that things are actually good" without ever citing them.

Income inequality is at an all-time high. Full-time minimum wage is not enough to afford an apartment anywhere in the country. Homelessness is rising. Red states are rolling back child labor laws. House prices, rent, health care, education, and other items have been inflating much faster than wages for my entire life. The only positive metrics you can find are for owners of capital investments.

  • Even the Islamic State has never called themselves ISIS.

First of all, they would use Arabic. Secondly, their full name translates more appropriately to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The Levant is a geographical and historical region that roughly overlaps with what we call Syria today, but is not quite the same. So the better translated acronym would be ISIL. ISIS is a sloppy attempt at westernization.

  • All of Biden's "lies" are the equivalent of when my mom describes an event that happened "a week or two ago" that was actually 3 months ago. They're minor unimportant details, or just simplification for the sake of giving speeches.

  • I'm writing this from my Xperia. It doesn't have CoD or OneDrive. It has Facebook, but so does every mainstream phone. Only extremely niche, privacy-focused manufacturers don't have Facebook at this point.

It has LinkedIn, but I have had to use that professionally and would have installed it anyways. It's similar to Facebook where only niche manufacturers don't have it. Compared to Google, Samsung, and Apple, Sony phones are pretty clean. Compared to niche companies like Fairphone, yes Sony has more bloat.

  • This is a port. Ty 4 originally was a Windows game from 2015.

The whole context is pretty interesting. The studio was one of the few in Australia and Ty was arguably the first Australian videogame IP. The games were always low budget and the studio took on a lot of cheap licensed games in order to keep the lights on.

Like a lot of 3D platformers from the time, they let another studio make quick, cheap, 2D versions for the GBA. By 2015 Krome was really struggling. Ty 3 flopped and Microsoft pumping publishing money into games for the Microsoft Store, and so the studio cranked this out.

From a technical perspective this probably could've been a launch title for the Switch. I'm guessing there were some business or legal issues why it took so long (this release is also riding the coattails of the remasters of Ty 1&2, as part of the larger industry trend of 3D platformers coming back).

  • No it's not.

I don't want to give some restaurant my phone number.

Someone hacks into my Nando's account and orders food? Cool I can dispute the charge on the credit card or whatever.

  • Last year they released the 50th anniversary edition flashback, which included 130 games, 2 joysticks, and 2 paddle controllers. It's currently selling for $70.

I'm really struggling here... What is this 2600+ offering? Only 1 joystick controller and a measly 10 games. I guess the ability to play 2600 and 7800 cartridges? Are they going to re-print some? How much would those be?

For $30 you can get the Atari 50 collection for whatever console you have it Steam. 103 games, including 5200, 7200, Lynx, and Jaguar, plus tons of bonus content.

What could they possibly add to make this thing worth $130? This feels like something that should be $40-$50.

  • I already use Chiaki on my Deck to play my PS4/PS5.

Sometimes my wife is using the TV for something else. Sometimes I want to be out on the porch, or in bed. Sometimes I just don't want to put my glasses on.

This thing has a better screen and, for PS5 in particular, better controller features than the Deck.

It's a bit pricey, but not as bad as I was expecting. If it goes on sale I'll be tempted to grab it.

Weird that PlayStation named their device the Portal and valve didn't though lol.

  • I think the even bigger advantage Valve has is the business model.

I don't know how much the Deck costs Valve to manufacture. And yes, it's pretty easy to run non-Steam games. But the bottom line is that the Deck does not have to be a profit center for Valve, it just has to drive more sales on Steam without losing too much money. Logitech, Lenovo, Asus, etc have to make money off of the hardware.

  • I went through a few over the years. Some were this exact brand (in blue or black). Some were basically the same but more square. At first they had built-in storage, but later ones just had a micro SD slot. Some used a AAA battery, some rechargeable. Some had an FM radio tuner built-in.

They were all great. My smartphones ended up replacing them eventually, but it was really nice to have physical buttons. And, in college in the 2010's, it was nice to have a USB drive on me at all times.
