  • It sounds like you are accessing it only from your local network, and as long as it stays that way its fine. I have a DNS Server at home, set up a domain name, therefor have certificates from letsencrypt which get automatically renewed for https access, AND STILL I only access it from my local network with no ports open to the www.

If you have your instance openend up to the internet (e.g. by port forwarding from your ISPs router to your nextcloud instance) and have no encryption / no certificate, thats a major flaw and i would advise you to shut it down immediately and close the port.

  • It surely is, it has also been really great to see the growing support for all those games over the last years. Sad to see some games still being borked with no valid reason (Pubg e.g., with the developers stating the game can run on linux with no problems at all, they still will block it bc they are scared of hackers or some other lame excuse).

Every problem I had playing games on Linux could be fixed by some kind stranger on there offering a command or sth. else (sometimes even stuff thats not related to linux at all lol)

  • Well there is

    • Vulkan (graphics API, successor to OpenGL which was used by e.g. Minecraft, CS Go i believe)
    • DXVK (compatibility layer for games created with the DirectX Framework by MS)
    • Lutris (game launcher for stuff you bought outside of steam, e.g. GOG, Epic, Uplay, etc.)
    • Steam and maybe Proton but idk.
    • the atom thing could be protondb.com, where you can look up if your game will run on linux and what fixes / commands are available

    • i don't know what that Atom sign thingy is
  • As I've never been sure about that, I always used kindles without wifi access and copied the books onto the device with calibre. I recently read about people sending their pirated books to the email adress amazon hands you to automatically copy files to the kindle, using a burner account i suppose, still those people have some balls lol.

  • I seriously recommend checking out Celeste if you're into platformers with the difficulty of dark souls. The main game is completable in 8-10 hours, but theres about 2-3 times more content in that game. There is also a speedrunning and a modding community.

  • Maybe one should choose another drug to alter another ones mind into thinking he's the dragonborn. Maybe acid / shrooms, at least that was what Charles Manson did with some of his cult members to persuade them into killing other people.

  • Windows is shit, but the days where you have to do configuration if you don't use some obscure notebook in one of the most used linux distros is over. I'd say gnome e.g. is pretty close to macos UI wise. There is also Hackintosh if you can't live without it.

As for why I particularly hate apple:

    • Bizarre pricing for comparably low tier Hardware (although not really comparable since apple makes their own ARM silicone)
    • Bad repairability, including flimsy collabs to produce some overpriced block of metal just to change an jphone battery lol
    • Walled garden / closed ecosystem. Blocking third party apps for users "security". All this green bubble / blue bubble bullshit.
    • productivity and design wise alright machines, but utter trash when it comes to gaming.

There are surely more / other points to make.

  • Did this bc there were no Pis to buy a year ago and I'm really glad. Learning Proxmox and hosting a ton of stuff on a little thin client the size of a VHS tape that was about 200€ and sits quietly in the corner of my room was totally worth it. There are alot of offers for used ones on ebay, e.g. lenovo thinkcentre mini, hp prodesk mini, dell optiplex mini.
