  • I never said he wasn't a valid target though. I'm asking what you think what a reasonable time frame a sitting president is expected to be given to fulfill a campaign promise of lowering the nationwide price of a commodity, and if that's based on precedent.

  • These are all great reasons why egg prices are high, and will continue to be high.

All I'm asking for is precedent for a president to impact nationwide prices in 2 months time. What do you think is a reasonable window after which to assess a presidents impact on pricing of a national commodity?

  • I'm as against trump as anyone else, but let's say your candidate of choice was just put in power a month ago, would you expect new economic policies to have lowered the price of something nationwide? What's the historical precedent for something like that? Biden releasing strategic reserve of oil comes to mind, and IIRC that didn't put a dent in prices.

I worry that folks making a big deal out of this at this point in time are effectively being the same as the "I did this" Biden sticker folks, and idk about you but I sure thought they were asshats. Six months down the line, sure, hold him accountable for what he ran for. But idk how much economic impact a president has in two months time.

  • Louis Rossman, a strong advocate for the right to self-repair, has an extensive, bottom to top guide on self hosting your own services. It starts from introducing what a modem is and what role it plays, and it ends with an entirely self hosted cloud. It comes in article as well as 13 hour video form. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to get started self hosting - it doesn't just introduce software you should learn, but it also shows you how to configure it.

  • I finally got link warden up and running, but I'm chasing down some failures on a few websites.

Also realized that me biting the bullet for unlimited bandwidth (screw you Comcast!) means I can run archive team warrior, so that's been going.

  • Every dollar given to the IRS yields 5-9 dollars back in recovered taxes.

If I told you you could put a dollar in and multiply that by fivefold in a year, you'd be a fool to not leverage it.

If you were running america as a business, you would failing a fiducial duty by not investing in it.

Now, I wonder why the billionaires in charge of government don't do it?

    Hmm.

  • It sounds like you're looking for a mind blowing sander-lanche.

I'd highly recommend going through Ted Chiang's book "exhalation". A more popular example of his work is the movie "arrival", which was based on one of Ted Chiang's short stories.

It's a collection of short stories, but don't be misled - these stories have stuck with me for years, and as someone who has also read all of the cosmere, it is these short stories that have the biggest twists, and also the largest impact. A few of my favorites are below:

I've always wondered to myself, "how many of my youngest memories are my own, and how many are in reality, stories told around photos that I've seen? The story "The truth of fact, the truth of feeling" makes you think about the role of technology in our memories through one example in the past, and one proposed in our future.

"What's expected of us", free on Nature, is a haunting story going over the role of free will that can be read during a bathroom break.

Finally, "anxiety is the dizziness of freedom" had one of the biggest gut punches I've ever read. One best gone in blind, I think.

  • The discrepancy you're pointing out across different countries is at most 18x, according to your article.

Let's ignore, for a second, that "richness" needs to be considered in the context of COL. Yes, 1% of someone salary could make an impact in Tajikistan. But the cost of a meal for that potential donor could also bankrupt someone in Tajikistan. But let's ignore that for now.

18x an average persons salary is a fart in the wind when it comes to the rich. Take a look.

  • Organization scheme, ease of use of the voice channels, cross platform compatibility.

We briefly looked into discord alternatives. Element x isn't mature enough, schildi chat could be viable. Revolt seemed to be the front runner, but the voice chat was awkward to use since it didn't show when people were in channels, and the noise cancelling of discord was sorely missed.
