  • I wouldn't expect folks working on Linux to be discouraged by the sweat equity of something as small as running the installer for an OS. I definitely read "just work" to mean having all components supported by the OS, regular updates available, etc.

  • You are absolutely right.

They try to spin it as "trying to get around no personal electronics allowed in the SCIF", but what if it's a low-side DoD machine?

The biggest issue I see is if signal isn't vetted to run on DoD computers, and quite frankly that's a slap on the wrist at most.

For reference, you can do as much damage as you could from signal by logging into Gmail.

  • Additionally, government supplemented/paid for day care is the only way to pay the teachers fairly. Given places often aim for 4 students:1 teacher, you already have a hard cap of 4*monthly fees for salary for that one teacher. I pay 1.2k/ month, so a teacher can get a max of 4.8k/month if EVERYTHING went to them, which we all know it doesn't due to taxes, administrative staff, utilities, facility fees, etc.

However, if they raise fees, they price people out of a much-needed service at a time when folks typically haven't reached their max earning potential yet.

  • Unfortunately if you take alternatives out of the running you're kind of just left with impotent rage against one of the biggest companies in the world and their shareholders.

Why would Microsoft ever care about some mildly upset users on Lemmy when they know said users are locked into their product for life?

  • I've only lived with stucco all my life, but in tackling unknown home improvement projects I've found Google lens to be a lifesaver to learn what all the pieces parts I'm dealing with are called.

  • Hey, you're a gang member with a criminal history in El Salvador, let's get you deported.

What's that, you say you're not one?

    Prove it without due process.

What's that, you couldn't do that? Too bad, the administration doesn't care and you're now in a foreign prison (and maybe dead)

Do you see why due process is important?

  • There really is a bit of a catch-22 in my book that's centered completely around self confidence. If you are proud of who you are, if you are living up to your ideals, you are simultaneously much more attractive to others, and at the same time you realize that you don't need others - but they sure are the cherry on top.

  • This was a pivotal video about "nice guys" I watched growing up that imo everyone should watch.

This is not a transaction where you walk up to the cashier and pull out your nice bucks and buy sex and romance.
