  • I don't really mind the idea of Republicans. Their execution is the problem. If they really were focused on small government, national defense, low taxes, the second amendment and pro-life, I could understand it (though I am decidedly pro-choice). It's the disingenuous nature of it all that gets me.

I also don't really like the Democratic party. They tend to make big promises that never fully materialize.

  • I would never criticize the entire voting population or say something like "I don't know why Americans allow X to happen". My criticisms are specific and targeted towards certain groups of people who are working against our interests.

  • Do we know if background checks would have helped?

I suppose not. I just think that something should be done, be it more frequent background checks, or anonymous 360 reviews within the staff, or an independent board to review decisions made. We should necessarily trust everyone on the staff to have our best interests at heart, especially when they're foreign nationals. This sounds like someone that the CIA/NSA should have been checking up on and notifying the FBI of their actions.

  • I find there to be a more honest discussion here. Also, I really like that it's not run by some giant VC fueled company that is driven to make as much money as possible. It's more like a public utility where the cost is distributed among multiple instance owners. However, I am concerned about their rise in costs over time and I hope there is a plan for revenue. I'd be willing to pay.

While I'm here, I hope you all still use reddit a bit and mention Lemmy on there occasionally. I think the community can still grow.

  • I had an Amazfit BIP for a while that had a color e-paper display with a battery that lasted over 30 days. I think they have since gone OLED but one cool thing about it was, while they had their own app with a login, I could alternatively sync it directly with a third party app on Android that was called "Notify And Fitness". I only mention it because within this particular app the info never left the device. Perhaps there is something similar today, but I have since just given in and gone Garmin.
