I don't mean to be insensitive but what's keeping you at a job that hasn't given you a raise in 9 years? I would have been polishing up my resume after year 2s review with nothing to show for it
If it isn't capitalism then I would argue it's a direct consequence of the incentives it sets up. When a venture is primarily owned by investors whose only interest in it is a return on investment, sooner rather than later, it sort of sets up exactly what I described does it not?
Maybe the words I should have used were "unfettered capitalism"?
I think they're referring to a common growth projection strategy used in modern capitalism which is basically whatever number we made last year + X% is our goals for this year and if we don't make that growth then it's considered a failure and now we have to lay people off.
No capitalist is ever okay with doing just as well as last year, or recognizing that last year was an extraordinary circumstance that gave us blockbuster sales and it isn't necessarily repeatable.
It may not be the textbook definition, but it's definitely a trait of modern capitalists.
The closed, finite system we are referring to is of course Earth. Capitalism requires expansion, but what do you do when you cannot expand further?
I was going to say, what healthcare-centric crisis stands between 2019 and now? It feels like longer waits are an obvious consequence. Not to say that's all though, it's not like people are signing up in droves to go hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt and work their asses off just to get rewarded with 12 hour hospital shifts where you don't have enough resources to deal with the number of patients.
Unless your VPN has already been court ordered to give over logs and couldn't because they don't keep any, they're not trustworthy. Even then, if it's google I'm not sure I'd trust it
If you're really used to photoshop and don't mind using a webapp I recommend photopea.com
The UI is super easy to pick up if you're used to photoshop, and for my purposes it has all the functionality photoshop has. Only downside is it's a webapp with no local client available as far as I know.
Some prisons disagree. The 13th amendment bans slavery except as punishment for a crime, meaning prisoners can legally be slaves. Too many see incarceration exclusively as a vehicle for punishment rather than a rehabilitation tool.
I pay for it, the results are quality and the fact that my brain doesnt have to sift through ad results and can just look at the real data is so nice. Additionally, they have a large number of "lenses" which can change the scope of your search. For example, they have a lens for searching lemmy as well as lenses for the "small web", which filters out all the results from massive corporate websites and gives way more personal project sites and the like.
