  • It's open source, so it's dead simple. Just go to the git repository and download the code and a compile it for your system. When it doesn't work, it will throw an error and the simplist thing to do is just to a crash dump and then go back an manually update the bytes in the machine code that called the wrong register and boom you're golden.

JK - go here and find an instance (like lemmy) to join. You can log in on mobile, too, with one of the official apps.

  • What OP didn't tell you is that, due to its age, it's running on an unpatched WinXP SP2 install and patching, upgrading to SP3, or to any newer Windows OS will break the software calls that version of Pascal relies upon.

  • Iirc, Constantine was preserved in a giant bay barrel of honey. On learning this, I felt it would have been quite the marketing opportunity to sell off small vials as “A taste of the empire!”

  • Checks and balances are dependent on at least two of the three branches to be working in good faith and in the interest of the country as a whole. In that case, the third branch can theoretically be properly contained. I say theoretically because what the Right has been using, and came to full daylight under Trump, is that the entire system is no more than a gentlemen's agreement with no actual enforceability. As you point out, "we trust you not to be awful" and if you are awful, it turns out there's nothing we can actually do. Even with a supermajority opposing you, the process may be delayed or obfuscated sufficiently to make the available punishments (usu just removal from office) moot.

  • I was a bit baffled by your post because it seemed odd, but it's the second time today I've encountered someone mentioning it. It appears that lemmy.today is a no-dv instance; I presume it's a server switch option. The rest of the instances I'm on all have up/down voting, and kbin, of course, has boost/up/down. Not that there's anything wrong with it but, just so you know, it's a feature of your instance and not lemmy-wide.

  • Won’t someone think of the poor corporations!?

  • It’s usually worth getting a second opinion on anything that expensive, and it’s usually worth waiting for a good engineer if they’re backed up.

I am an engineer, and I’ve seen good engineers and shit engineers. It’s terrible I have to say this, but if you’re buying a house and the owner has an engineer look at a potentially serious problem, you should probably still pay for an engineer to look at it as well. And it’s probably going to be expensive. $450 is a steal.

Also, if you know what you want the engineer to look at, specifically, it will cost less than “getting the house checked.” The former might be a fixed fee, the latter is likely to be hourly and well into 4 figures.

  • kick em a few bucks, be their customer.

    Better yet, be their partner.

  • Except for you Adobe. That's a cost issue.

    AutoDesk had entered the chat

  • The cut was multi-staged and started middle of last year. The most recent cut was relatively small (10-15% iirc). As others have pointed out, that reduction doors not take into account the recent self-inflicted wounds.

  • Because they will show up in the communities list and be propagated (in the list) across federated instances.

  • It’s somewhat fascinating how far behind the US is, technologically, compared to Europe.

  • You're missing OP's entire point. The two platforms are completely different. You see, Twitter is a microblogging platform, but Mastadon is a microblogging platform. They're as different as Word and Pages, or Excel and Sheets, or Photoshop and GIMP. Just entirely, utterly different in every way, with the sole exception being that they are functionally identical. (-:

  • Definitely go in with exceptionally low expectations if you want to have a good time. I was fairly optimistic based on the reviews rampant shilling on Reddit and was pretty disappointed. If you’d asked me for a score right after I watched it I’d go 4/10. In hindsight it’s more of a 6 if you allow that it’s supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek and the stilted dialog is a feature rather than a bug.

With those caveats it’s a perfectly good way to waste two hours if you have nothing better to do. It has no memorable lines or scenes, and is just an average hot-topic-of-the-moment throwaway action movie.

  • Always remember - the flavor of their food and the beauty of their women led Britain to be the greatest seafaring nation in the world.

  • My reply to the the whole thread would be bread/sourdough. Healthy might be pushing it, but a whole grain, hard wheat (bread flour) at least has a bit more protein. Plus I usually add eithe a bit of olive oil to the dough (good fat) and brush the top with butter (extra taste).

I’d put steel cut oats in this boat too, with a bit of honey to sweeten.

  • Wait…so if I used Power Delete Suite to add Fuck Spez to all my old comments I could keep my stuff but the bot would make it all invisible to everyone else automatically? That sounds interesting.

  • Is this a UK BLT? That bacon looks suspect to an American. 🤣
