  • I wasn't aware that high refresh rates were beneficial for VRR? I'm not an expert, my assumption was that if games are needing VRR, they are likely running mostly around the 30-45 FPS, like cyberpunk. At which point a 60 Hz VRR display would be equivalent to a 120Hz one in so far as the VRR functionality is concerned.

  • I think it keeps cost down which is important for any console release, and the 120Hz VRR display is a good marketing sound bite. Cheaper LCD display means the OLED will come out as an easy mid-gen upgrade.

Like the OLED switch, the OLED switch 2 will be more expensive than its LCD counterpart when it comes out.

  • I found it interesting that all LCD handheld PC displays tested except the ROG ALLY X had poor response times on the display, including the LCD steam deck.

None were as bad as the Switch 2 though. The 120Hz refresh rate doesn't seem to make a lot of sense if frames can't even transition at a rate that keeps up with it.

  • Indeed. I think if you know about the other storefronts and isthereanydeal you don't get a wrapped about steam summer sale. There's usually some new ATLs that push newer/bigger game prices down a bit further than usual though.

  • Lot of people saying it's Meh but ones that I've been tempted by are:

ATL 53% off for Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate edition

    • this passes the $60 AUD threshold which I've been holding out for

Crash Bandicoot Nsane trilogy for 90% off

Stanley parable ultimate edition at lowest price since 2023

    • deals for this game have been tepid since December 2023, but this matches the ATL
  • That would be a shakeup. If they released a Gaming veraion of Windows on a PC with quick resume that also played much of the Xbox library going back to the OG Xbox, that could appeal to a lot of people.

Its shocking to me that Xbox is run by the same company that has an operating system installed on 71% of the worlds computers, and they still haven't figured out how to leverage that for Xbox gaming.

  • I dunno. I think as a platform that heavily markets to kids, they have a responsibility to ensure that those kids aren't preyed upon on their platform. If you took a child to a live action Bluey play, you'd be expected to keep an eye on your child, but you'd also have a reasonable expectation that the event holders have taken some measures as hosts to keep the kids safe from a variety of hazards including suspicious adults.

  • Yep. I think the reason the AUR on Arch hosts a lot of unmaintained packages that cause breaking changes at least in my experience. OpenSUSE TW basically is the sweet spot, though I've had one or two bad updates I've always been able to roll back with Snapper.

I wish TW was more mainstream a distro, as it's solves problems people complain about a lot with Linux (i.e. stable releases not supporting new hardware, rolling releases breaking randomly).

I genuinely believe the age of the distro hurts its appeal for Linux youtubers to spruke the later distro.

  • Alright, time for round 2 of bad faith argument, let's dive into defining every word you just used.

Alternatively, your definition of Good simply uses an antonym. That doesn't get us any closer to a definition. Define it again. This time, be careful not to use any word I've asked you to define previously or else I'm going to dismiss the logic of definitions as being Circular.

How can you criticise me without having workable definitions of every word I use?

By the way, I define Matter as "the impulse of the human mind'" so that's what definition we're using in our discussion now. /s
