  • Edit: ah, I think keychain access must not have worked. It didn’t prompt me; so I’m not sure how to grant it manually.

Edit 2: built from source and it did request access this time. I granted it, but the behavior seemed otherwise the same as above.

  • Same. Also, doesn’t seem to let me sign in (on SDF); the login box goes away, but when I switch to the feed, the lane on the RHS says “Lemmy.world”. When I go back to the profile page, it shows me the login box again, suggesting the login actually failed.

  • Correct in the sense that it's the incentive scheme, i.e., capitalism (supported by state power, e.g., by enshrining the entity of a corporation and then enforcing its protection) that is the more meaningful, or at least actionable, cause of these behaviors.

While those incentive schemes are in place, ascribing too much agency to corporations themselves, i.e., calling them evil, is not particularly effective as it's not going to change the underlying incentives.

  • Woah, didn’t know there was even one web app in development as I would have thought they’d just modify the Lemmy source code directly. I suppose that would take way longer to merge and be more controversial, too, than just writing one’s own front end

    Nifty

  • It seems this was meant to be a response to the parent comment.

Lol yup, true… definitely unintentional. I'm used to RES and being able to collapse / navigate comment chains with keyboard shortcuts

I wonder if there's anything analogous for Lemmy 🤔 I suppose the analogous thing would be to just directly add these as features to the frontend

  • Er, having calorie deficit is, by definition, the only way to lose weight. I agree that 1500 specifically as a flat target regardless of starting weight, gender, and height, though, could be outright dangerously low, not to mention unrealistic. Fortunately, calorie counting apps are good at setting target intakes given the above parameters.

  • Damn. Thought you were advocating for reformism or some other non-syndicalist approach until I noticed the icon. Do you have a favored approach for building that solidarity?

Edit: it’s unfair for me to ask this question. A better way of posing it would have been for me to propose a few and to discuss / develop them.

So, I’d say, I guess organizing outside of the workplace through creating non-hierarchical institutions that meet people’s needs, ie, dual power, is essentially what I’ve arrived at.

  • Or at least give the the additional option to see a feed of all instances and communities across Lemmy / the fediverse I have not personally blocked or filtered out.

I believe that option is possible if you set up your own instance, which, yeah, is admittedly non-trivial resource-wise (time/money/effort). Maybe slightly less non-trivial would be finding an instance that is itself fully permissive.

  • Right. Technically, iPhone X batteries could be considered “replaceable”. Practically, when I did it, I had to purchase an $80 kit with tools, then take on substantial risk that I’d break it irreparably(say 20%), and put in a solid 4 hours of effort to do so.

    Valuing my time at $20/hour, and the phone at $800, that’s $80 + $160 + $80 = $320.
