I'd rather kids watch smart movies like The Iron Giant but it's hard to argue Star Wars has a lot of cool stuff kids will enjoy immensely.
Yeah the prequels have horrible dialogue, bad direction (making a mostly fantastic cast look bad) and many questionable choices. I couldn't rewatch most of it myself but hating them is a bit strong especially if somebody else is getting harmless enjoyment of it.
That is a funny phenomenon. Maybe there are also more and more people who watched it as younger kids and have a better appreciation than those of us who watched them as adults.
Good points. The gun would have to cycle with CO2 or magnets and feed from a magazine empty casings so that the ejector continues to do its job.
Yet so many movies just add the sound of casings hitting the ground so I wonder if the hassle is worth it except for some specific shots. I enjoy the realism but I'd rather people not put their lives needlessly at risk.
Some guns are modified in that way for movies. They are still potentially dangerous. Blanks can harm someone close enough or accidentally propel something lodged in the barrel.
What recoil? They are shooting blanks. There is no mass leaving the gun. If you want to cycle the gun on trigger pull in a realistic yet safe way, compressed CO2 can be used. Some movie guns are even electrically/magnetically actuated.
Breakthroughs are so interesting and the reason predicting the future of tech is so hard. Text embedding and "Internet scale" training are likely the things that allowed this AI boom and the amazing initial results.
I think many people see AI (and other tech) moving linearly from the current point forward but any software developer knows this is rarely the case. And no one can predict the next breakthrough.
It doesn't help the hype and confusion around ML/LLM/AGI. And because on the surface LLMs seem intelligent people misunderstand their capabilities (much like politicians). They certainly have fantastic uses just as they are now but a lot of people are overly optimistic (or pessimistic depending on your point of view) of our new "AI overlords".
Personally, LLMs are absolutely amazing at supporting me in my professional writing. I don't let it do my work but it helps me play around to find a better way to express some things like if I had a sparing writing partner.
Add some rum along with the weapons for moral support of the Taiwanese defenders.
