  • Yup, there's a discussion in the main rules post talking about the different dates. I imagine the organizer will understand if there is some discrepancy

Discogs lists 2024 and MusicBrainz lists 2024-02-16, so I'll add it to the list

  • Thanks for all the links, I appreciate it :)

✔️ confirmed for the English list

  • There are a few

I've been playing with LemmySchedule to schedule out posts ahead of time. This can be good if you want to sit down once and queue a number of posts to go out over the course of a few hours, or if you want to make recurring discussion threads (which work great for building up a community slowly). For example, I'm testing it out with another account here: @otters_raft@lemmy.ca

There is also @bot@rss.ponder.cat, which you can set up to post from RSS feeds. This sounds closest to what you want to do from the other thread. The instructions are here: https://rss.ponder.cat/post/34622. For example, I have it set up to post from a youtube channel in !marinemammalrescue@lemmy.ca

There may be others out there :)

  • Some apps have previews of the article when you open the comments, which might encourage people to read a bit more of the source content

  • Instead of killing it, what about creating an official sister community here, and encouraging people to use it. Being under the same moderation and having the same rules can go a long way towards establishing that trust. While reddit still won't like it, it would look terrible on them if they tried to stop it.

If you open the website in a web browser, you should see a 'Create Community' button.

A more detailed step by step:

    Name: ex. 'vancouver'

    • it will appear in the link (c/Vancouver), and can't be changed

Display Name: ex. Vancouver or Metro Vancouver etc.

    • you can keep changing this, but keep it relatively short

    Icon & Banner are recommended

Sidebar for a description of the community and any rules are recommended

Under languages, select whichever languages users should select from when posting (ex. Undetermined, English, French)

Then you can post in places like !communitypromo@lemmy.ca and !newcommunities@lemmy.world so people know about the new community

Then keep posting to it till it gets rolling :)

  • In that case I can include it, the organizer is chill and that sounds like a reasonable exception that I can let them know about :)

  • Unfortunately the contest rules require our submission to have been released after 2024-01-01, but I’ll include this in our large playlist at the end :)

  • That's alright 😄 We've gotten a few outside the range, and I'll see about making a large playlist at the end and including these extra submissions in that
