If you like true crime and also someone not afraid to call out when the cops fuck up, I recommend Bailey Sarian. Love her "Honey let me TELL YOU" vibe, but that'll be a turn off for some people so YMMV.

I don't recall cops coming up much in Barely Sociable but he's great too though he hasn't posted in a while, and his stuff is less true crime and more mysterious stuff in general.

Appreciate your chiming in. I always squirm a little at jokes that imply that therapy is useless. Even if they're funny, it's a difficult topic and it's sad to think it's reinforcing that mindset for someone who actually needs help.

I like it when I'm remembered because it means that I was worth remembering.

Always boggled me to see people trying to post long write-ups on complicated topics on Twitter of all places.

I'm still kind of surprised we haven't seen a similar model for gamers/streamers yet.

I worked at a call center for a while, and it wasn't common to need people to sleep, but during a particularly nasty snow storm, the CEO was trying to get people to sleep over at the office so they could wake up and take on extra shifts. (Not great, but we did answer for a lot of healthcare offices. Not really an excuse, but context.)

Always wondered why some of the CSRs at the call center would get chewed out more than others despite being polite and respectful and I think you just made me understand that it was because they sounded false. They had a very obvious "customer service" voice. The ones who didn't tended to just sound like normal folk having a good day. (That's the secret sauce, they usually weren't having a good day, but they sounded like they were in on some joke with you, that joke being 'ahh talking to people, am I right?')

I also firmly believe it's to crush the idea that the majority of people don't like what's happening. Feels like standard censorship to me. If you look around, and it feels like everyone is against you, you have much incentive to speak up. Nobody wants to stand alone. Reddit is such a huge platform for discussion--they want to use that power to shape what is 'normal'.

It wasn't what introduced me to linux entirely, but it is absolutely what made me realize that Linux COULD be user friendly, so I definitely give credit to Valve for that. I am now gearing up to make the switch in the near future on my desktop.

Like I said your mileage may vary. I know in my town, fliers are fairly effective because there are a lot of high-foot-traffic spots where they can be posted. I don't think I've ever seen someone go door to door about something, but we have had folks attend local events with requests for signatures and they seem to do decently. You gotta know your community to know how best to reach out to them.

I do have a little experience and you are correct! Canvassing or fliers or whatever is very much a YMMV per location but collaborating with fellow supporters and grabbing data to back up your position are both solid starting points.
