lemmy is a software platform that is the 'threads'(ie,reddit) arm of the network of servers we call the 'fediverse'. mastodon/universeodon/pixelfed are the 'microblog' (ie, twitter) arm of the fediverse. some platforms can interact with both sides.. mastodon for example can push posts into lemmy even though lemmy cannot follow mastodon users.

some platforms can do both, right now, like mbin (ex: https://moist.catsweat.com/).

some platforms are working on providing both, i believe pixelfed is adding 'thread' support sometime later.

we need users more than posts. but its a chicken and egg thing.. people wont come if theres no content and we need people for the content.

what we really need are subs from reddit moving their entire community to a lemmy/mbin community.
