  • You think a woman choosing to enter sex work is being exploited? OF and the NFL can be exploitative platforms, but because they are corporations, not because someone on the internet forgot to save the people taking part in those enterprises

  • Literally the very first paragraph of the story. The very first.

President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and is pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. It’s the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

Why? Because the president has arguably unlimited power to pardon federal crimes.

  • This is a good question from the wrong angle. This event is cathartic for many people because the ultra rich who ruin countless lives never get punished. When they see “consequences” it’s a golden parachute. This event is frustrating because the media, legal, and security apparatuses expect us to treat this assassination as a grave act, but actively normalize the acts of harm Thompson and other leaders like him commit every day.

This event is revealing in stark terms the divide between the elite and the average person. Should murderers be prosecuted? Sure - in a world where justice and the rule of law matter for everyone equally. Doesn’t feel like we live in that world.

  • In this case I’m not upset. How many deaths, bankruptcies, and lives ruined are these ghouls responsible for? Save your outrage for them. Just because their crimes are less dramatic doesn’t make them less meaningful

  • If they catch this guy he will never see trial. No way they’d risk him getting up on the stand, and even less likely they’d want to try their luck getting twelve people to convict. He’ll go down in a hail of gunfire or get Epstein’d

  • My original comment was too glib so here’s the truth. So long as the right is viciously opposed to democratic norms, consensus based governance, and the rule of law when it suits their needs, we don’t have the luxury of purity tests. Judges aren’t non-partisan. Nothing is non-partisan.

  • I refuse to be happy about the democrats doing so little that we’re stuck relying on
ancient judges appointed by centrists clinging to life and their career long enough that maybe the next democratic administration will get around to actually appointing leftist judges. It’s better than Trump’s appointments would be but not nearly good enough.
