To fine an absurd amount and/or send them to jail for 3 whole months?

If one person being an ass causes one to spiral bad enough to warrant that kind of sentences, I would hazard a guess that they are extremely likely on a wrong occupational path. There’s no way interactions like that aren’t weekly for everyone working any service gig.

I get that it has an effect and nobody should behave like that, but I can’t believe anyone would deem these as proportional punishments.

You likely get same 3 months jail here where I live (a western social democracy) for manslaughter, if you are first-time offender. Depending on a lot of course, but that anyone would consider these appropriate seems insane to me.

Still, 2.7k fine for an insult, in a single instance, is already bonkers, but three months jail time?

Whatever your stance on whether or not the guy should be punished, the extent of this punishment here really shouldn’t sound fair or just in any way

The obvious solution would be to take some token as an argument to the api calls that is private to the user, which would signify a consent to share also the hidden data.

I think there already is a token like this for steam item trading, in case your profile is private?

I.e if you don’t provide that argument, share only public stuff to the caller. If you do, it’s a explicit choice by you, since you are required to provide your credentials in some form of a token.

What I wonder, though, is if it isn’t possible to describe human brain, and the nervous system as a whole, as a very large set of instructions for transforming inputs into outputs?

I’ve always wondered with stances like this, why do you assume that our “intelligence” is much different than that of llms? I mean, as much as we like to feel superior, is there anything that would really prove that our brains don’t work in a similar manner behind the curtains? What if we just get input stimuli and our mind is simply the process of figuring out the most likely answers, reactions or whatever, to that?

I haven’t seen anything to that effect, but then again my field of study is vastly different. I’d like to be enlightened certainly!

Not sure what devil means here, but I suppose it doesn’t really matter which kind of devil it is exactly. It’s probably going to be very unhelpful or actively malicious on concrete or practical stuff anyway.

Would just ask stuff about them. How’d they come to be? Are there more of you? Are you limited to this planet, or does your influence extend beyond? Stuff like that.

Have to be honest. I do a bit of music producing, so I am a little bit of a snob about quality.

But on a phone, on the go, the convenience of bluetooth and not having to be tethered to anything beats the obvious downsides for me.

I use proper equipment when I want to listen in high quality and properly.

So, I haven’t had a jack input in a long time, and have missed it exactly zero times so far. But can really well understand the need for it if phone’s often with you on the go and you don’t often sit down in a specific listening spot at home. And probably any other reasons are equally understandable. I think I am the weird one here.

See a lot of comments here about creative skills like drawing or singing, and I feel a little bit privileged having skill in both and more besides, on the creative side.

But I can’t really feel good about it, because I have serious problems with math and strict, rule-based stuff.

I really wish I was more logical and structured. I also lack a lot in the department of executive function, being so chaotic and creative. I am really bad at most everything that would actually get me a decent wage. The creative skills are worth nothing (in the sense of getting paid) if you can’t manage to stick to deadlines or sell yourself as an employee or a freelancer, and I keep getting into deep trouble due to miscalculating and misestimating my budgets, timespans, conceptualizing bigger picture when I am thrown into doing small picture stuff, or seeing the small pictures when I’m working with the big picture.

But it’s pretty interesting and fun seeing these different kind of responses. I guess there’s a little bit of a zero sum game here; if one’s good at something, almost always they’re bad on something else. Seems obvious, but somehow I’ve never thought about that.

That is my perception of the people that still, after everything, remain there.

The ex-Twitter is exactly the same as Truth Social or the like to me, and it’s hard to take anyone seriously who still exists there as an individual. Brands I can understand, since just holding a handle and linking to your primary social medias is worth something, but individual people… can’t really hope for them to be sensible or worth my time if they exist in, or even worse, actively use, ex-Twitter

Probably no need to worry. I like folk and especially nordic folk music (as in Wardruna, not Bob Dylan), which is very obviously something a neo-nazi would also probably like, if only for the superficial themes at play. I used to feel a bit afraid I might accidentally like and support someone I wouldn’t want to, but I’ve come to learn that these shops like midgard, they don’t have those kinds of “normal” releases usually, since they as a shop are often also banned on distributors’ side, so they couldn’t even get them if they wanted. At least eventually that’d kick in, as people report the shop to the bands or labels.

The music and merch these shops sell are… very obviously neo-nazi. I recommend you take a look at the shop just to get an idea, though obviously a content warning is necessary here.

This is all to say that unless the music you listen to is very obviously racist or neo-nazi or otherwise explicitly problematic, I wouldn’t worry.

Of course I might myself be wrong here, but I’ve tried to keep up and stay up to date as to which bands I like could be or turn out problematic.

None have so far, at least as far as I’m aware.

They’d have to be very explicit. I think you’d know for sure, if that was the case.

I listen to a lot of music like wardruna, I simply love the mysticism and the atmosphere of history, magic and rawness, but all of the ones I listen to are actively and publicly denouncing their music being used or approbiated by neo-nazis or other far-right movements or groups.

I think a lot of people would make a lot of noise, if one of the more popular ones would refuse to publicly denounce that. Or otherwise dodged these questions. Some, like Wardruna, are very actively and explicitly fighting those forces and are in a sense “reclaiming” some of the themes and fascinations that nazis and neo-nazis used to have, especially in norse mythology and history and their themes.

I am no longer anxious about being associated with wrong music. I think it’ll be very obvious if a band or a brand otherwise, takes a dodgy stance or especially very explicitly supports those dangerous ideals.

Which is to say, I wouldn’t worry, unless the lyrics, branding and themes are very explicit in their meaning.

I’m just dropping in to recommend you take a chill pill and not be so irritable and fragile, lest you make yourself unnecessarily mad on the internet.

In general, I adore and like people. Capable of such beautiful things!

I like seeing people smile and interacting with them in order to absorb that light and shine it back. And if none seem to be there, I like to try and get one going.

But I get anxious where there are masses of people present. City streets. Malls. Campuses.

It’s not that I suddenly dislike people. I just get overwhelmed with my adhd and base quirks, too much stimuli and too much of everything going on everywhere.

I love people as individuals for the most part, i.e unless they specifically give a reason not to. Many do give that reason, unfortunately. But the vast majority never do, in my (privileged?) experience, which is amazing and exciting to me.

But I tend to avoid masses of people. Not because I dislike them, but because I dislike the anxiety I gain.

Late summer I remade an account after getting over a relationship that previously ended, and found my current partner (though I did have to go through a few not so great dates to finally really click with someone, but that’s also true for what we used to go through back in the day, and probably for anything that has humans involved).

But I agree that the experience in the app itself was significantly worse, with the constant adverts and pop-ups and whatnot. I just endured them to connect with people, but definitely worse experience as an app than the last time I used it some years ago. But humans are humans in and out of the app, doesn’t really matter what the app is, as long as one can connect and move to other apps from there. Or, you know, real life 🙈

Just an anecdote, but I never paid for anything, and most of my exes were from tinder, as well as my current partner. Some were from jodel or instagram, but I’ve had the best luck by far with the dating apps.

I don’t really feel scammed, though they did probably extract a goodly amount of my personal data. But monetarily it was free, and I had a bunch of nice encounters as well as some really good relationships.

But I am a millennial, nearing 30s, so maybe it’s a generational gap

But then again, this is subjective, so we can’t really argue about that my dude.

To me, all of it is convenient. Shortcuts included. The conclusion you drew is just a projection from your point of view, and as such, it’s understandable, but none of that is anything akin to what I am saying…
