I donāt really count Lemmy or Mastodon. They feel more like forums to me, but that might be my age showing. I know traditional forums these days have fallen out of popularity.
Iāve been turning this into a new adventure by reviving all of my old tech. The other night, I installed custom firmware and homebrew stuff on my 3DS XL. I also dug out my Nexus 5 and booted it up. That thing is my permanent backup phone.
AI image generation is going to royally fuck up the body image for a lot of people. Weāre going to get to a point where we can no longer discern between reality or fantasy.
People will get a handle on voice generation AI so that they can make the person they secretly obsess over, tell them all sorts of things without their knowledge. It can also be used to impersonate a relative or friend for phone scams.
AI glasses are going to do facial recognition on people without their knowledge, and some creepy motherfuckers are going to use it to stalk women. The AI will give you info on some historic building, while simultaneously making you a surveillance tool for the state.
AI bots are already flooding every platform and being used to spread propaganda. They are the employees that never sleep. We all know how widespread they are on Reddit.
This is a window into the future with AI in the hands of sociopaths and corporations. They are going to doom us to a world that is devoid of a soul or human connection.
This! My wife and I got a fancy Japanese rice cooker that will keep rice warm for hours. Comes out perfect every time and itās a vehicle for all kinds of delicious things. Eggs, tofu, chicken, all sorts of veggies and sauces.
Itās like clockwork. You give capitalists an opportunity to mask a price hike under the guise of something else, and theyāll take it every single time. Money is the only language they speak.
Yeah, you would think theyād be given the space to make something amazing, but the execs ruin it for everyone with insane deadlines, constant layoffs, and forcing devs to put in questionable moneymaker mechanics.
Thereās been a constant squeeze in tech for years now. Youāre always expected to be faster and more efficient at each interval and it never eases up. Iād be happy to wait longer for a game if it means the devs arenāt stuck in a grueling loop that burns folks out and drains the end result of its soul.
On top of that, games are insanely hard to make. So many system configurations and variables that can wreak havoc.
Itās usually more like execs needing bonuses. Less people at places like these usually means 1 person is now doing the work of 2. āNo, weāre not backfilling these roles.ā Queue collective groan from everyone left as they start to prepare their resumes.
It canāt self-correct, write new curriculum, etc. Itās an abyss for errors and it does not understand when you correct it. Iāve tried and watched it give me the same alternating 2 answers that I told it were both wrong. If itās wrong, you basically have no idea. Youāre putting trust in a navigator that is simply reading instructions and understanding none of them.
Iāve been in tech professionally for around 18 years and have lived through trends and changes. This is by far the worst one and the most haphazard. Iām not anti-AI (I use Copilot at work and itās constantly wrong), but what is happening now with this AI wave is just reckless. Theyāre throwing it at everything because shareholders love shiny new things that make line go up.
I love that Rogers supported Clemmons and truly had no issue with his sexual orientation. Rogers couldāve simply said to not be openly gay on his show, but he went as far as advising him for the long haul. If you read this as a single headline, itās way too easy to misconstrue as homophobia, but the reality was that Rogers had a deep understanding of society and how to traverse it to survive and have a career in such socially chaotic times.
