  • In my personal projects, I don’t use anything. I wrote a set of utilities and functions in SCSS years ago that let me easily create reusable variables and classes that already do what TW does, but with less bloat and overhead. I get project-specific spacing, colors, font classes, everything.

I also highly recommend picking up Andy Bell’s Complete CSS course.

  • I fucking hate summer. It’s terrible in Florida. Not as intolerable on the west coast.

  • The subtext here: “if you post anti-Israel stuff, you can kiss your chances goodbye!”

  • It’s really crappy at trying to address its own mistakes. I find that it will get into an infinite error loop where it hops between 2-4 answers, none of which are correct. Sometimes it helps to explicitly instruct it to format the data provided and not edit it in any way, but I still get paranoid.

  • If working with AI has taught me anything, ask it absolutely NOTHING involving numbers. It’s fucking horrendous. Math, phone numbers, don’t ask it any of that. It’s just advanced autocomplete and it does not understand anything. Just use a search engine, ffs.

  • It’s not actually illegal but it is heavily restricted. Basically no over-the-counter or online purchase kits:

According to the provisions of the Genetic Information Law, genetic tests can only be performed in Israel in medical-genetic laboratories approved by the Ministry of Health according to the conditions specified in the law.

The tweet is also only partially true based on what I can find. It’s not illegal to post the results publicly, but it wouldn’t surprise me if posts like that mysteriously vanished from platforms.

It speaks to the control Israel exerts over its own people and the narrative. It could also speak to their isolationist society and paranoia about being exposed for the massive fraud the country is.

  • Yeah, for clarity, I don’t think it can replace any dev. I mentioned senior because there’s a ton of soft skill and historical context involved that senior devs hold that is absolutely not replaceable. I’ve found AI to be helpful for grunt work and nothing else. It constantly chokes, even when being fed the entire codebase for reference.

  • Corporate goons always use fear as a tool. This coupled with fucking up the entire tech industry via layoffs, and suddenly engineer leverage basically flies out the window entirely. You can’t replace senior devs with AI. You can try and I will enjoy watching you fail.

  • Don’t worry. MAGA dummies will find a way to support it. They’ll twist themselves into a pretzel if required.

  • “We do not provide bulk information to any government.”

Millions of dollars on the other hand

  • You’re right, the dot com bust was far worse. That feels like forever ago these days.

  • The VR hype was such a poor investment. It’s a tech that has never taken off in any way that’s large enough for the profits they demand I think the only place it’s gotten marginal interest in, is the gaming PC crowd, and even then, it’s still very niche. It feels like the further things progress, the more detached from reality the “innovations” become.

  • Yep! This is the first time the investment has been so catastrophic though. The amount of money they’re throwing at this absolutely dwarfs every past innovation spike.

  • This all just feels like sunk cost fallacy at this point. Capitalism can’t do anything besides grow, even when the growth involved and the tech they’re trying to sell isn’t even remotely as good as the hype states.

    Self-hosted LLMs? Awesome.

AI in the hands of corporate ghouls? Not awesome.

It’s the same narrative every time. Capitalists bastardizing tech and exploiting workers for profit alone.

  • I think mine are around the same year. Such great machines for random shit. I tried to run an AI cluster across them and it kinda struggled 😂. It was a fun experiment.

  • Sometimes you can find them on eBay.

  • I use old Mac Minis that were cycled out from a company and replaced. An e-waste laptop is still probably cheaper, but you can still find the older model Mac Minis fairly cheap too. I have 2 of them that sit vertically side-by-side in a small rack with my router stationed above them. They both run Elementary OS.

  • I’m curious how many folks in the US basically go broke from truck payments and interest rates. I do pretty well working in tech and I still gasp whenever I look at truck prices here. They’re a massive fucking ripoff—even small trucks like the Ranger and Tacoma. I probably walk past folks on the daily that are paying 4-digits every month for a stupid status symbol, while they get paid like shit.

  • The Panthers used to march armed as defense. They were tactical and knew their rights. We have to show as much restraint as possible in order to not let the narrative run away from us. This is going to be a long battle (we are what, 4 months into a 4-year window?) and we still have a ton of ground to cover. Bullets should be the absolute last ditch effort, but it must be made clear that as soon as cops decide that rubber bullets need to go away and the live ammo comes out, it’s chaos.

    • Chasing ICE out with rocks and pockets of people are effective and make it harder for the police to kettle people
    • Working together essentially as a modern day Underground Railroad to protect and hide folks ICE is looking for is also a tactic
    • There are a ton of US military in CA that you know are wondering what the hell they’re doing there. They might simply be there as a show of force, but assume the worst. We could adopt a flyer campaign that attempts to get a message into the hands of soldiers. Maybe make some of them come to their senses about the fact that their dipshit president has called them up illegally and is willing to make them all traitorous accessories that shred the constitution. This one is inspired by airborne leaflet propaganda tactics the US govt has used abroad. If we can weaken their resolve and sway a handful of numbers, that’s less boots that are a threat
    • Make roadways inaccessible for ICE vehicles. Drop massive rocks on the roads, barricades, dumpsters, whatever you can find. It might end up that they work on foot instead, but that means you’ve just made them more exposed (and given yourself a window to disable their transportation)
    • Cover cop and ICE cars in paint. Make it so they’re a pain in the ass to see out of and operate. Do the same with cops. Reduced visibility means they have to retreat.

We have to be tactical and smart. We could be reckless and resort straight to the worst option available, but we know our enemy and how they function. Anger is a weapon when channeled properly. The police and the military are waiting for us to fire the first shot and then all bets are off. They will control the media and pull out all of the stops earlier than anticipated.

Violence isn’t off the table by any stretch, but there are better ways to utilize it. Everyone can play a part and there are tons of guides out there.
