  • Using Boost I don't know. But I use the markdown syntax, so I put an exclamation mark, then square brackets (any helpful alternative text goes there, in case the image won't load or for screen readers like for blind people), then the image URL goes into curved parentheses. It's super annoying to type it all out, but I love the gifs so...

And let's see if I can display the above in a code block...

    ![image](https://forumus-uploads-production.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/original/3X/8/f/8fe49c77c0ecba566731bb9f269c7685d9a306a4.gif)

    Yes! 🙌

Edit: now I will be curious what dark hells I have helped unleash in this, our darkest timeline.

  • It just wouldn't be as much fun any other way:-).

  • Qui-Gon is gambling at much higher stakes, placing the fate of the entire future of the galaxy into the hands of that boy, who Yoda had strongly recommended against being trained. So it's not that Qui-Gon was against Obi-Wan wanting to gamble, he just wanted him to significantly up his game:-).

  • Use of PieFed is optional though, only for those who want it?

Though as app support improves, like Voyager, more people may choose it to take advantage of features that Lemmy lacks. The list is quite extensive but includes categories of communities, which are user customizable and shareable, flairs, both user and post/community, hashtags, keyword filters, true blocking of instances, and so much more. Plus being written in Python, that list will only continue to be added to as time passes, taking days to weeks to add them rather than years.

  • Mbin? Its largest instance iirc is fedia.io, which accesses both "Threads" (Threadiverse, so like Lemmy, PieFed, other Mbin instances, nodeBB, etc.) and "Microblog" (Mastodon).

  • Except for the news channels you mean? 😉😕😞

  • y tho

  • FAAFO?

  • This... is... AWESOME! 😎 And YOU are awesome! You all freaking rock! 🤘

  • That's neat! Technically you can see videos from the Threadiverse as well but I'm guessing that whole process is streamlined in Mastodon, and I am not aware of any such short-form video communities here.

Unfortunately, videos on Lemmy auto-play, including those WITH SOUND!!:-(

    Example:

Oh neat, PieFed still auto-plays but mutes the sound, I love PieFed so freaking much! 🥰

Edit: sorry I should have warned about the political-themed content of the video - it was just the easiest one to grab, unfortunately:-(.

Edit 2: you can also upload videos as well, here is an example of that:

  • Ew... I hope not!? 😔

  • Ooh, interesting. Thanks for the heads-up:-)

  • Not fully bc Loops does not quite federate yet. Check out !loops@midwest.social and as the note says, best viewed from a Tesseract UI, like in your case https://t.lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/loops@midwest.social .

But mostly people are waiting on Loops to catch up on its development to do more with it.

Edit: To clarify, you can view all of these without registration. Here is an example post of a Loops video: https://piefed.social/post/342104 and here is a Tesseract powered version on your instance https://t.lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/lemmy.dbzer0.com/31948457 .

  • Thanks for the update - it looks like I need to stop spreading misinformation. Sigh, and Loops as well - people like to generate all this excitement but actually delivering is a whole other matter:-(.

  • The only way I can think of to break out of that is to not play the game at all - e.g. instead of Windows vs. Mac, make FOSS Linux, and instead of Facebook vs. Reddit, make Lemmy, Mbin, and PieFed. On the other hand, people that already own a house have greater abilities to donate their time to such coding efforts, whereas younger people today... not as much.
